Funny money

So, Rishi has been dishing out the dosh. What do you do in times of crisis, chuck a few more quid about. There's no doubt that some people are having a hard time, and juggling the books is predicted to become a lot harder. The vast majority of folks will have some difficult decisions to make.
Isn't it strange that living beyond your means can encourage you to spend more, not less. Where is Rishi getting all this money from? Is it easier to to balance the books when you have billions if not trillions at your disposal? How does he do it?
Pages of figures on a spread sheet mean nothing to me, so how does he unravel it all? I suppose he has had plenty of practice as he is so rich himself.
I am very sceptical that this whole charade will explode into anarchy eventually. People are struggling to make ends meet. They need more income to cover their expenses. There are very few jobs about for those with no qualifications. The Government are expected to cover their shortcomings.
I can't see that living on handouts for a long time can lead to an enriched life. There is no incentive to explore alternative sources of income when the money magically drops into the bank account every month. If my pension stopped tomorrow I could play around with several ideas to bring in a bit of cash to keep me going.
Furlough was a bonus to many people. It was like a training ground for the future. Get paid to do nothing. It went on for weeks, people got used to it.
I'm not saying that benefits should be stopped, there are people who need that helping hand. But I find it suspicious that the Government are happy to dish out dosh that they haven't got. Which ultimately squashes peoples desire to better themselves.
Stamping out someone's entrepreneurial spirit by getting them to rely on the state, can only mean one thing. A whole generation of people expecting everything handed to them on a plate.
Imagine a scenario where total reliance on the Governments handouts means that you have to ask permission to spend your money on what you want to spend it on. Go cap in hand for an increase in your allowance. That isn't a life at all, and the Government know it.
The sun is shining and I am of out. Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon. Toodle pip.   ilona

    1. Eventually they won't even bother printing it. Money is just numbers on a spread sheet. The new currency will kick in, gold is becoming very popular.

    1. Hi flis. Think of yourself as a little power house. Think of the knowledge you have and the powers you possess to run your own company. How you can make a few quid here and there. Never ever say, Please can I have, to the Government.

  4. As I recall, the founder of the Welfare State (Aneurin Bevan) believed that no-one should be able to live just on benefits, his aim was always to provide the help in times of hardship to enable people to return to providing for themselves and their families.
I personally felt that the previous government (not sure which one) that broke the link between having a contribution record from work and eligibility to receive any benefits did this country a major disservice.

    1. I am not that familiar with the history of benefits. I thought it was a helping hand from the Government when people fell on hard times. To get them through a patch of bad luck, like losing a job or illness.

  5. Dropped a clanger in my comment - should have been Beveridge as author of the Welfare State post WWII.

Same here in the US People are thinking they're entitled to a pay check. No, have to work like the rest. Too many live beyond their means and feel that's their right. Well, I guess it is their right if they are willing to suffer the consequences.

    1. Our Government used to be quite strict on cracking down on those who play the system to gain free money. There will always be those who abuse it. But now the Government are actively encouraging people not to work by promising free handouts. So what has changed. The influence from a World Government is pushing them in the direction of control and compliance. Get everyone signed up.

  7. It sounds as though our governments (U.S.) are operating from similar, if not the same, playbooks. Spending differently, but beyond what the country can afford.

    1. Hi Taja. They are. Spend money they haven't got, and print some more. Like running a car on empty, pulling the fumes up from the tank, and squeezing the life out of it. Eventually it chokes to death. The economy collapses. All deliberate because it suits their plan.

  8. i do wonder what possible use this fiasco is , it only seems to make people resent the poor and the disabled even more . If they wanted to give money away surely it would have been better to give it away to individuals and let them make their own decision to eat or heat

    1. Hello Kate. They do not work on common sense solutions, like give it to those that need it. Their main priority is controlling people lives. Separating those in need from those who can afford to pay the increases will do as you say. The arguments will be about why have they got it and we get nothing. I believe this is part of the levelling up plan.

The easiest way of giving out these bonus handouts from an administrative aspect is to blanket everyone the same. I wouldn't be surprised if the exercise is aimed at getting everyone onto internet banking. You must register your bank details to be eligible for the bonus payments. Harvesting personal data is big business. They don't want to deal with poor people by giving them cash, because they then have no control over how they spend it.

It is about taking away people's freedom of choice. Ideally everyone should be looking after themselves, unfortunately they don't, and the Government have to pick up the tab when it comes to healthcare.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

    2. I agree with Kate, it breeds resentment and judgement. It should be on the basis of genuine need. The fact it is a blanket approach makes me think it's to do with data gathering as well ilona. There's something very fishy about the whole thing. Karen

  9. We are a one income couple. I choose to stay at home to free up a job for someone that needs one. The little extra I earn by invigilating goes straight back into the joint spending pot and I'm growing as much veg as I possibly can. If only people learned to manage their money better and tried growing their own food they mightn't be in such dire straights. All the new houses being built near me are what we call 'Mini Mansions' young folk will be mortgaged up to the hilt and unable to heat these houses. I see a property crash looming. And before folk start bleating on about being unable to garden they could try the no dig method. I have a paralysed leg and a dodgy hip and manage perfectly well. Sorry Ilona, it's turning i to a bit of a rant.

  11. My understanding is that the windfall tax on the energy giants will be used by crediting the electric bills monthly from October through to March by approx.£67 a month. This will happen automatically if you already pay by direct debit.l would think if you still have a paper bill it will just get taken off the amount you owe.l think it will be a big help for people that have higher energy costs who might need to use medical devices or keep he house warmer. However l also think that overall we have got used to living a wasteful lifestyle. Some people walk round in tshirts and shorts whilst having the heating on,or in america putting coal fires on and the air conditioning at the same time.l think removing the tax off the bills(which was supposed to be a brexit benefit) would be a bit of a help, but l think we are in for a tough year or so.

    1. The bonus payments that they are supposedly going to pay out are a mystery to me. I will see if I get any communications by post from the Government, or emails from my utilities provider. British Gas are good at keeping in touch.
