Here we go again. They are never going to let up. Everything has got to be 'smart' these days.

The chief executive of British Gas has called for smart meters to be made "mandatory" in every UK household. Chris O'Shea says the move would mean the nation is on track to hit net zero targets, although the energy measuring devices remain unpopular among some homeowners.

I reckon I am smart enough to make decisions about what I want to do, and what I am going to do. I can study options, and I can decide which choices I am going to go with. Or I can reject all options and do my own thing.
So this is my declaration. This is a test post to see if the changes to my background colour has worked.
Have a nice sunny day. Toodle pip. ilona
No way Jose. It is just another way for them to control us.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, it is going to get quite messy as time goes on. Stick to making your own decisions. Don't be bullied on anything.
DeleteCount me out, I will send in my meter reading as per usual
ReplyDeleteAs a British Gas customer we have already made it clear to them that under no circumstances will we ever allow them to fit smart meters unless at gun point!
ReplyDeleteI am fed up of Brit Gas. They hold millions of £'s of customers money. They make it difficult to get a refund. They must be making a fortune in interest.
DeleteAnother refusenik here…they can ask, but I won’t do it
ReplyDeleteSo good to see some people with sense posting here
ReplyDeleteYes, makes a nice change. It's about customer choice.
DeleteWhy on earth do people think they need a smart meter?
ReplyDeleteI can see some benefits if it is a multi occupancy household, and people are not careful about leaving things plugged in and heating blasting out, when it's not needed. The gadget is supposed to monitor usage instantly, and give a readout, but in a lot of cases it stops working. Other than that, there are no customer benefits.
DeleteThe only benefits are for the utility companies to buy in the right amount of products from their suppliers to resell to their customers. They don't want to over stock or understock because that would affect their profits payable to shareholders. It's a marketing tool. They will also be able to alter their prices to, depending on the peaks and troughs of how much they are using.
Sure I saw a program on TV saying a very large number of smart meters are broken/ not registering properly and in some cases overcharging customers.
ReplyDeleteHave refused to have one several times
Sally from Devon
Correct, Sally. There are problems when people change suppliers. A lot of the meters are not transferrable, and a new one has to be installed. Who want's that hassle. There are millions of £'s of overpayments being held in utility bank accounts. Money that belongs to the customer.
DeleteNo smart meter for me!
ReplyDeleteVery wise. They have a product to sell, gas and electricity, don't pay for it before you use it.
DeleteI have lived for years without a smart meter, I think I can live a few more
ReplyDeleteThey did away with meter readers who came two or three times a year. No vehicles or wages to pay for. A lot of people are quite capable of reading their own meters. If someone does need help, meters in awkward places, they can always ask.
DeleteI don’t like the idea that they know exactly how much electricity I am using and when…it is none of their business!
ReplyDeleteThe smart meter is a tool to monitor our every movements. Use of utilities fluctuates throughout the year. Utility companies want to know how much stock to buy in to service their customers. A smart meter is a similar system to the loyalty cards that supermarkets issue. It's a tracking device. What you buy and when you buy it, they want to know. A business management strategy to maximise profits. That's all it is.
DeleteI don’t bother with store loyalty cards either. No smart meter for me.
ReplyDeleteMy house had a smart meter already installed when I moved in. Don’t think I would have bothered to get one installed
ReplyDeleteWe don’t have smart meters where I live but they are in the horizon
ReplyDeleteCould be in the no smart meter gang
ReplyDeleteAnother person who likes to send in my readings
ReplyDeleteLots of smart meters don’t work properly.
ReplyDeleteIt's a definite no from us too. We'll continue to send our own readings.
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona, EDF keep pestering me to have a smart meter. I've lost count of the number of times I've said no but I wont give in. I get fed up with the loyalty card scam at the supermarkets too. You feel like you have to have one or you are penalised and pay more. John
