Dear Bank

Good morning. It was a lovely sunrise early this morning, red sky behind the trees, and within the time it took me to visit the bathroom it had deteriorated to grey and drizzly, now it's raining. Such crazy weather, makes me think someone is messing around up there in the sky.

My bank has thoughtfully sent me a text.

HI ILONA, You can now enable contactless payments on your new debit card. Select your card in the app, then 'card limits and controls', to amend these settings.

My current card runs out at the end of November.

Dear Bank. I cannot select your app. I do not want a contactless card, so don't send one. I will continue to withdraw cash at the Post Office, and use that cash for all of my purchases. What I spend my money on is none of your business. You don't need to track what I buy, how much I spend, and when I buy it.

All this is to reel me in to change my banking arrangements into digital online banking. No thanks. Continue to send me a paper monthly statement in the post. I am the customer. If my banking arrangements are not acceptable to you, I will move my account elsewhere.

Yours stubbornly,

Off to Coffee Morning now. Catch ya later, more photo's of my Skipton walk coming up.

Toodle pip. ilona

  1. Hi llona. I feel exactly the same way. I will continue to use cash as it is no ones business what I spend my money on or where. I still get a paper bank statement and all other bills are paper too..

    1. Stick with it Eve. I am astounded by how many people go along with whatever they are told to do. The excuse is that everything will be so much easier. No, it's for the convenience of those who want to control our every move.

  2. Yes Ilona cash is king and paper bills work just fine .when my new debit card arrived it said on the letter with it that if they did not like a transaction I made they may decline it? Which transactions might they refuse me They don't like what I bought in Tesco's.Or maybe I bought too many cakes at a cake shop They must be monetering what we buy.

    1. I will let you know what my letter says, when it comes with the new card. I can see me marching to the Bank hub which is in our library, to complain and reject it.

  3. I too had to request a non-contactless card from the bank. Contactless cards are not safe and make theft from your account a lot easier. If you ask they can easily send you one that is not contactless. They are definitely pushing this very hard.

    1. Good for you. Stand your ground. The only way I can contact my bank is by telephone, and I am not going to be hanging on for them to pick up the call. I shall go to the bank hub and play merry hell if they send me a card I didn't ask for and don't want.
