Hey, I'm back. What, you didn't know I've been missing, ha ha. I started writing this post at 5pm, and it's now gone 10pm. Well I had my dinner, and made the quick decision to get myself down to Tesco. My fridge is bare, no veg or salad left, and you know how I crave my fresh vegetables. I got there just before 8pm and had to hang around untill nearly 9pm for the best bargains.
The fruit and veg man was on his break, I kept my eye on the trolley and watched several people pick stuff up and put it down again because it had not been yellow stickered. I decided I would be first in line so waited for him to come back. Yipeee, it paid off. I got spinach, salad, parsnips, swede, fresh beetroot, cauliflower, peppers, broccoli, lettuce, milk, lychees, greek yogurt, watercress, and pancakes. There wasn't any reduced bread so I paid normal price of 99p for a seeded loaf. I also bought some grapes, and soya milk at the normal price, everything else had a yellow sticker. Total price I paid was £6.86, If you deduct the cost of the three full price items, that makes all the rest £3.92. An absolute bargain.
It's been a right old murky day today, the fog hasn't really lifted very much at all. This is our village green, not very green at the moment. Someone has cleared the snow from the path, we have a lot of elderly people in this village, and a lot of them cut across here to go to the shop.
I took Lady dog for a walk, her owner Graham has gone off on one of his rambles with his pals.
The sun is making a half hearted attempt to shine through the mist here.
Coming back from the hills, we cut through the church yard, looks very spooky.
Looks like this angel has a hat on.
The next few photo's are of the bushes in my garden. I like how the frost clings to the edges of the leaves.
There aren't many berries left now, the birds have been scoffing them.
That's it, I'm off to bed. Good night.
You have outdone yourself with the photos today - well done! I absolutely love the one of the churchyard - very very spooky!
ReplyDeleteThe picture in the church yard does look spooky; I'm expecting a zombie to come around one of those stones, or perhaps that's one hidden under that cap of snow and not an angel. Beautiful pics as always MQ :) Sleep well!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos especially the angel with the hat on:-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you got some good bargains.
Toni
Really lovely atmospheric pics.
ReplyDeleteThe bushes in your garden look wonderful. Next summer it will be hard to imagine that they looked like that. Lady looks happy with her walk.
Glad your shopping trip was a success.
Wendy (Wales)
I love the sun through the mist pic!
ReplyDeleteMy Mum in Law used to work in Sainsbury's,she said that it was always the rich folk who hung around for bargains and she didn't think that was fair...she'd be chuffed that you got some bargains!!
Jane xx
I *heart* your pictures so much.
ReplyDeleteNice job on the groceries. :)
Patience is a virtue, and yours paid off big time....great shopping deals.
ReplyDeleteEven though the snowy weather looks COLD, your photos are lovely.
I love Lady dog, she looks like a true lady.
Beautiful photos Ilona. I am not as good as you with the yellow stickers but did manage to get a 'finest' lasagne from the Co-op yesterday reduced from £6!!!! to £3.75 (serves 2, a lazy evening meal) and a tomato and basil focacia from Asda reduced from £1.69 to 89p to go with it :0)
ReplyDeleteGood morning Ilona from Housefairy
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you have stocked up on food. With this cold weather you never know if you will be trapped indoors.
I was telling husband last night, you have to make your plate as colourful as possible. He was grumbling because I was putting broccoli and sw.corn on his plate with pizza and chips. Added extra tomato on top of the ham and pineapple pizza.
Tonight I am cooking "pasta ratatouille bake from the change4life booklet that was put through the letterbox.
The photo's look "very winter".
With the photo's and others you could craft your own calender through the seasons.
We did not have much snow here in Hampshire. Maybe a sprinkling on Sunday night that melted in the morning sun.
Hats are very much a topic here! I wore one in the house yesterday morning . The black insulate one with pale pink scarf that matched the med. pink jumper I was waring.
It has made other people think they are missing out. Husband wore his on the dog walk. Now our son has said he wants one as his ears get cold on the bike.
Time to get moving and dance with the chores. Ha ha....
Colourfull veg is the key to a healthy diet. Try and get your hubby to drop the chips in future, that's unless he is stick thin, in which case a few chips now and then would be alright, ha ha.
DeleteWhat beautiful photo's. I love to see where my bloggy friends live, sort of makes me understand them better, and how they view things. Well done at Tesco's. its very rare that I get ys things nowadays but I live in a poor area so you have to be on the ball. We haven't really had frost just very cold but we are tucked up warm, lap blankets, extra thick wooly socks etc.
ReplyDeleteLove the misty photos. How lovely that someone cleared the path, that was very community minded.
ReplyDeleteLovely frosted folage. Good bargain buyes, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Lady dog is cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the icy pictures. Makes me feel cooler now :)

Beautiful frosty photos!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Ilona-what sort of camera do you use? I have a Canon digital but cant get the quality that you do.
ReplyDeleteRuth x
Hi Ruth. It's a small point and shoot type compact camera. Fujifilm fd, 10.0 megapixels. It's got lots of different settings, all of which I am not familiar with. I do use my editing programme once the pics are on the computer. Crop the edges, lighten/darken, contrast, and colour saturation.
DeleteThanks so much for that Ilona-could i be really cheeky and ask what editing programme you use? (:

It's just the bog standard Picture Manager that you get in Microsoft Office, which came already installed in the computer. It doesn't do an awfull lot, but is simple to use to make some subtle enhancements.
DeleteThanks for that Ilona!

Thank you for sharing the snowy pictures lovely.

Love to hear about all your food bargains. I never can find stuff like that here so I'm a bit jealous! Only kidding. Glad for you that you have access to these reduced prices. Your diet seems very healthy (all those veg!) and you do it for a reasonable price. Also loved all the snowy and icy photos. It always feels so peaceful when the snow is falling. Does a town employee shovel the path for pedestrians? We have town employees who shovel away the snow in parks (paths) and also in front of public buildings of course.
ReplyDeleteHi, some of the public paths are cleared by volunteers, the council do not send workers to do that job. The council distribute bins full of salt and gravel that we can use to scatter on the paths. The area around the health centre is always cleared of snow because a lot of elderly people use it.
DeleteCouncil workers come on a Monday to empty the litter bins, and in the summer they come and mow the grass, and send a machine to clean the gulleys out.
Lovely snow photos - thanks for sharing...

Wow, look at that frost! Lovely pics! Waiting for the snow that they have promised for Bristol tonight and tomorrow... WHOOOOO! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, WOW, what absolute bargains!! I REALLY need to go to the shops late at night!
Wow! Your photos of the frost and the angel are so beautiful. The angel looks like she has white fur on the cuffs of her clothes and a gorgeous fur hat.
ReplyDeleteHi Ilona! Wow...that's what I call a good shop! I found myself drawn to your lovely bags as much as the bargains, lol! Nice bright, colourful, cheery bags -- I guess from their message that they are some of your lovely creations? Heaps better than the boring 'bags for life' from some shops. The other photos are lovely too! Stay safe and warm.
