Flying high.

I received this letter the other day. I don't ask for a receipt, because it can lead to being pestered later on for more donations. Anyway, it's nice to know that my gift has been acknowledged, I hope that's the end of it. I have other charities that I donate to in turn, I do what I can. My mum told us to share our sweeties, I believe this is the best way of going about things. £20 to the neighbour across the road who ran for the hedgehogs yesterday.
Tis better to give than to receive.  ilona

  1. The air ambulance is such a good cause and it really says a lot that they took the time to send a thank you letter to you. I used to take a lot of things into a local charity shop, but I got fed-up of being scowled at, asked what the bags contained and then given a reply along the lines of "Oh, well, I suppose we can take them. Put them there," without so much as a please or a thank you, that I stopped taking them there. I still donate to other shops and give money to other good causes, but not to that one. A little politeness goes a long way.

  3. A friend of mine passed away many years ago, I donated to a scholarship fund in his memory. I have received letters, email messages, and phone calls for more than a decade, asking for more money. Never again.

  4. Good that you donate to charity. I do too but in Canada we do not get receipts for donations to charity unless it's above a certain cash amount.

  5. Sorry I didn't read the letter carefully enough the first time. I see your donation was a significant cash donation. We would get receipts for that here too and I gladly take them. Charities here do not pester us only give receipts and that's it. Unless I get on their mailing list which is entirely up to me and I can subscribe and unsubscribe at will.

  6. My friend does a yearly collection for the air ambulance in our area. Can not believe it is charity funded as I always thought the NHS funded it. All the best x

  8. I help when I can.

. I prefer to make things and pass them on to a charity to help funds.

  9. You have given to a great charity Ilona.I think I have mentioned before that they saved my Grandsons life after an accident at work.I share my unwanted stuff, between the animal charity shop and this charity shop. But you do have to be careful, with some that you give to.The old man who used to live next door to me...he died years ago...once gave to a charity abroad...and he was getting letters most days asking for more money.I tried telling him to ignore them..to be honest,it made me angry cause I felt that they were using him and he would sit there without heating on so that he could send them money. Then when he died, they started sending letters to me!!.I got it stopped!!,xx
