Foolish or not?

Good morning. Another text from my local medical centre.

Dear Ilona. On checking our records we note that you are due for a review of your blood pressure. This is due to the fact that you have not had a BP check in over five years. Please make an appointment using the link.

Dear WMP. The only occasion my blood pressure might fluctuate is when texts arrive from you, and by the way I think it is probably more than five years. I am pretty laid back and take everything in my stride. I seem to be functioning quite well at the moment. My diet is balanced, my weight remains stable and has been the same for many years. I spend time outdoors which is good for my physical and mental health. And my creative streak allows me to lift myself up out of the monotonous and tedious tasks of every day life. Thank you for your concerns. I am fine at the moment and will contact you if I am ill.

No, I did not send this, just my thoughts.

Have a good day everyone. Catch ya later. Toodle pip.  ilona

  2. But do you know what your blood pressure is? One can feel fine, have a stable weight and exercise, as you do, and still have high blood pressure. Why not check it out next time you are near a pharmacy that has one of those “check your blood pressure” machines?

    Keep on trucking

  3. It’s unfortunate that you can’t reply to these annoying texts but I’d certainly drop a note in to the surgery. You can stop them from using texts as a means of communication. My surgery doesn’t have my mobile number and never will. I even had my address removed from their system after telling them I lived on my boat full time so they can’t write to me either. My husband gets lots of incessant texts for various vaccines and they never stop at just sending one text.

  4. Preventative measures like this are saving millions by picking up issues early and saving in terms of expensive interventions/hospilisation that might be needed as high/low blood pressure can be an.initial indicator of lots of conditions
I agree your healthy lifestyle should reduce the risk of high blood pressure but low blood pressure can be just as dangerous. Why look a gift horse in the mouth. It's a 5 minute appointment and hopefully will confirm you are 100%
Seems bonkers to me and thank you nhs for not giving up on you

  5. I would recommend that you have your blood pressure checked as there are no symptoms of high blood pressure and the problems it can cause are very serious or even fatal. You can always pop into a pharmacy if you don't want to go into the doctors. What you do with the information you get is up to you but knowledge is power.
I felt well but had very high blood pressure and wouldn't have known without going for a well woman check shortly after retiring.

  6. You could always buy your own monitor and check it yourself Ilona, if you wanted to. They are available for as little as £15, I believe. Better than relying on the NHS. It would be nice to see how your garden is looking after all the work you are doing in it. I am besieged by weeds at present. Best wishes, H

  7. My husband was a doctor dodger. Fit as a horse he'd say. Well, that horse had a silent heart attack and is having a by-pass in the near future.

  9. Your reply to the doctor was a delight to read and I am sure to write. It would be tempting to send it but their computers don't have a sense of humor. I did buy an inexpensive blood pressure monitor which I used for a while but not recently.

  11. So true , at your age , even though you consider yourself to be fit and healthy,
It’s worthwhile to have your blood pressure checked. Often there are no obvious symptoms at first. Don’t know why you would object to this simple test.
    No needles are used .
