Blood but no guts :o)

Sorry, I haven't got much prepared for a post tonight, I've been getting on with the artyfarty stuff. I've finally got the blood sorted, had to look on the internet to see what a blood splat looked like. I was thinking I might do the whole design with coloured vinyl, but the blood had to be flowing over a curved area and it was too difficult to cut the right size shapes. I've ended up painting it on, needing several layers. Then I got another idea, there are ten small windows on it and I wanted something to be peering out of them. Suddenly it came to me, yes, that's it, that's what it needs. A lot of fiddly cutting and sticking of vinyl. I'm nearly there, just need some headlights on it, and a door. Might be ready tomorrow. It's looking pretty darn cool.

I took time out to go to town today, for a few things needed. I got chick peas from Home Bargains for 29p a tin, which I thought was a good price for saying they are about 70p in Tesco. Needed some Coffee Mate for £1.99, that usually lasts me three or four months. One spoon in one mug of coffee per day. Also got tinned tomatoes 4 tins for £1 at B & M, they are that price in Home Bargains as well. Eggs are 89p in B & M, and I got some of my favourite garlic cheese. Found some half price cooked ham for the cats, they love that for a treat. It looks like real ham, not the pretend made up stuff. I popped in Aldi so I could park there for free and walk into town. Picked up onions, cauliflower, and bananas. I don't need to go to Tesco now, with my top up shop I will have enough till the middle of next week.

Just a quickie tonight, my brain has gone to mush. Is it Friday again already, seems like only yesterday since I last said have a good weekend. Toodle pip.

Flippin heck, I must clean this screen, I have got a lot of full stops all over the place, where they shouldn't be.

  5. I've noticed that when I'm on a real creative roll I don't have a lot to say. Wonder if that is true with anyone else?

    1. Hi Judy. True with me. I can't force my brain to be creative though, so to start a project I have to wait and let it happen. Can't sit down and say, right, make something. When the creative juices flow it's quite exciting, when they are blocked it's frustrating. I can see what I want to achieve, but need to work out how I'm going to get there.

  6. Looking forward to the "big reveal":) 89 pence sounds cheap for eggs, do you buy free range Ilona? I'm paying $5.20 for a dozen jumbo free range eggs which is approx 3 pounds 40 pence for 12. Even at our markets they are $5.00 for a dozen:( I would love to have my own chickens, one day perhaps:) Have a wonderful weekend Linda xx

    1. Hi ManLass. I get free range eggs from B & M, a discount store in the High Street. The shelf ticket says £1.09, but they have been going through the till at 89p for a while now. They are medium size, big enough for me. They are locally sourced, either Lincolnshire or Yorkshire, which I think is quite important.

  8. Hi Ilona:) I've just read your reply out to hubby and like me his words, were blimey, it's a flipping rip off over here:( We recently spent 3 nights in a b&b in Crystal Creek, New South Wales (our holiday for 2012). The owners of the b&b had their own hens, each morning breakfast contained 2 fresh free range eggs, the yokes were amazing, such a bright yellow. I am obsessed with fresh free range eggs. Unfortunately they were going through too many to sell us a dozen:( Even at one pound, nine pence (sorry I don't have a pound key) they are still a fantastic bargain:)

  10. Look forward to seeing it. I buy my eggs from a local smallholding, hens running around, medium at £2.00 pd. I can get tiny ones for less if I fancy a change. However if I'm not going near the farm, I either get them from Home Bargains or Aldi, wherever I happen to be or whichever one is open, as I tend to keep away from the damn shopping centre during the day.

  12. Didn't you read the reporting about the eggs from the cut price stores Ilona? (B@M included)
They're far from free range I'm afraid. They're from confined hens.

They're able to say they're free range if there is a small opening to outside in the barns. In fact there are so many hens crammed into the barns they wouldn't all be able to access outside even if they tried to. In some there was muck piled up in front of the opening preventing hens from accessing outside. In several cases the openings had been purposely blocked off. The reason? "it's easier to have the poultry all in one space" !!

The hens are packed into the barns more tightly and have less space per hen than caged (battery) hens. Feather plucking is common due to overcrowding so they're debeaked.

"Barns" are in fact steel buildings. Not the idea we have in our minds of barns!

I buy from a local farm and look at the hens roaming freely, we're welcome to go and look at any part of their welfare.

If you can't buy from visible free ranging hens then RSPCA have a welfare scheme, at least those hens will have some outdoor time.
