Join me in keeping fit

Good evening. A little bit late tonight as I've been waiting for my new fitness video to upload onto the toob. If Jane Fonda can make a video on how to keep fit, then so can I. This has taken a while to do as I first filmed it in Portrait mode, made sense to me as I am standing up in it, but then I found it is quite difficult to rotate it to Landscape. It can be done apparently, but I found it a lot easier to start again and shoot it in Landscape. I shall remember that in future, ha ha.

My exercises are very simple to follow, the only equipment you will need are two tins of rice pudding, a small step ladder, and a piece of wire or rope. I don't expect you to go out and buy a Cross Trainer though, so you will have to miss that bit out. Instead you can just run on the spot. Everyone can join in with the last part of the exercise, you just have to get up out of your chair and throw all inhibitions to the wind. Don't worry about what you look like, you will feel a bit silly at first, but as you start throwing your arms and legs about you will start to enjoy it.

If you follow my programme for six months, I can guarantee that you will become as fit as a fiddle, and if you follow my healthy eating diet you will undoubtedly lose a few stones, or kilo's whichever you prefer.

So, let's get started then. This is the day you start a whole new life, feel free to join in.

Here is another one of my mouth watering healthy meals. For my lunch today I chopped a couple of onions and cooked them in a little oil. Then I added some chopped mushrooms and half a tin of black eyed beans. Simmer gently for a few minutes, adding a splash of fruit juice and a spoon of garlic out of a jar. Serve on a bed of spinach. Fabulous. More pics above in the Food Gallery page.

Toodle pip.

  1. I wish I was as trim as you. I should follow your diet and walking instead of stuffing this last bit of cake in! There are many people who wear leggings and shouldn't but you are not one of them. You look great!
I think my diet starts tomorrow.

    1. Hi Taaleedee, I have no set time or routine. As and when I feel like it. I am naturally an 'always on the move', type of person, can't sit still for very long. I use all the chairs in my house, moving about from job to job. Artwork downstairs in the living room. Sewing machine on the dining room table. Fabric and art materials upstairs in the spare bedroom. Small computer at the dining room table. Big computer upstairs in the office. In and out of the kitchen. Cat's litter boxes and feeding stations all over the house. Books on the dining room table, and next to the bed. Maps scattered all over the place. There's a lot going on in my house.

  14. Hi Ilona,Wendy here.

I do so much enjoy your blog each day,one of the first ones i read after a long day...

I am so impressed with your fitness video and can see that you enjoy keeping your body nice and fit and slim...

I enjoy walking like you despite having Osteoarthritis and do as much as i can each day despite the pain. One piece of equipment i can thoroughly reccomend is a trampett{rebounder}which i got from Tesco's three years ago {£19} and use it every day whilst watching the telly of an evening after my evening walk and find it helps with the joints as there is no weightbearing on the hard lounge floor...

For anyone with weight to lose it is a good item for fitness come hail rain or shine and it might be something you might like to try although i know it would mean spending some pennies...

Thanks once again Ilona for your infomative blog...

    1. Hi Wendy, what a darn good idea to get a trampette, and exercise in comfort in your home. I see so many abandoned full size trampolines in people's gardens, it is a shame they are not being used for fitness purposes.

    2. Hi Ilona,

I hate those trampolines with a passion so glad to hear I am not the only one lol,I think they are a passing fad and the must have toy{if that is what you can call them}of the moment, but the kids soon get bored with them plus they kill the grass wherever they are set up....

Me and hubby have both decided that unlike other members of his family are not going to be couch potatos and even though we both have joint problems are determined to keep walking for as long as we can into our twilight years. It is snowing quiet hard here at the moment in the Midlands so missed our Sunday morning walk,so the trampette has already earned it's keep today....

      Enjoy your day.Wendyx

    3. I tried a mini trampoline a few years back but I'm afraid after having 3 children (a long time ago) every time I jumped up and down a couple of times I had to dash to the loo......

  15. Sue here Ilona..I follow your blog everyday and enjoy it very much but have never commented before. You are such a tonic. Well done on your exercise video. I used to have my own similar exercise regime which I did every day but this winter its fallen away quite a bit so you have inspired me to get moving again.

  19. Fantastic routine! - After years of having given up my dancing due to the old asthma I`m now taking the plunge and will try to get back into some exercising. Thursday eve I`m going to join a bunch of ladies in a Zumba class. The first session is free, so I can try and see if I can get on with that before comitting myself completely. I do hope I can hack it as I so love dancing. Best exercise ever if you ask me. And if you like it you are much more likely to carry on with it, right. So, wish me luck.

  21. Inspiring post, had a dance round the lounge and liked it so much I did it again. My dogs have been watching me stepping on the stairs in amazement, so glad that i am alone in the house for a while. I am quite ashamed of myself you have the figure that I let go over the last couple of years, thanks to your "fitness video" I have started on the right path back to reclaiming it.

  24. love love love it ilona. A quick non exercising question. How do you keep your hair dye if you only use half of it at a time.

I have been meaning to ask you this for some time as I have very short hair and would love to know how you only use half each time.

    thanks in anticipation

    1. Hi Anon. In the box you get a tube of colour which you mix with the neutraliser in a plastic bottle. Don't do this, instead get a clean plastic pot, from yogurt or coleslaw or whatever you eat. Then mix half the tube with half the neutraliser in the pot, stir together, and apply with a paint brush or small sponge. Don't mix it all together in the bottle because you can't save ready mixed lotion. When you come to use the second half you empty the rest of the tube into the bottle, shake to mix and use the nozzle to apply. If you are going to do this regularly you can save the empty bottle to use next time. You can use any conditioner you like if you don't want to bother splitting the conditioner that comes with it.

    2. PS. If you find your hair is a little dry and you are not getting it all covered with the colour, add a drop of water as you are applying it.

  27. (From Nancy in Northern California) - Hi Ilona,
You are so much better than Jane Fonda because you are a real person that we can relate to out here in blogland! Thanks for giving me some great ideas and inspiration to begin exercising at home again.

  28. Great video and how thin you are!

  29. You're looking good Ilona, so your exercises are certainly keeping you in shape. I would have to adapt your routine because I have dodgy knees, although since losing 2.5 stones I can actually run up and down stairs now. Also after 5 big babies my bladder ain't what it was so I'd probably give the skipping a miss. I try to work a bit of exercise into every day routine, for instance I will pace back and forth in the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil, and dance around a bit while making the dinner, anything to keep moving.
