Free haircuts at the Back Door Salon

I look such a sight when my hair gets this long. It hangs around my face and annoys me, it looks straggly and unkempt, and adds another ten years to my age. There isn't much artificial colour left in it, the sun tends to bleach it, leaving the roots a little darker than the rest of it. I can't decide whether to colour it again, I'll think about it, maybe do it on a whim when I fancy a change.
Anyway, it's time for a haircut, I go to the Back Door Salon to get this done, it costs me nothing. My hairdresser is a whiz with a brush and a pair of dressmaking scissors.
Ten minutes later it's trimmed to my liking. No booking an appointment, no waiting in a queue, no time to sit down even. There you are Madam, all done, no you don't need to pay me, it's free.

Only one thing left to do, boil a kettle of water, and wash it. I wouldn't normally blow dry it, but as it is a pic for the blog I will make an effort. That's better, a bit shorter in the neck and some of the weight taken out of the top so it has more spring in it. Some of the bulk taken out at the back so it looks a bit layered, instead of a pudding basin cut. Next please, anyone else want a free hair cut?

I made too much dinner tonight and some has had to go in the fridge to be consumed tomorrow. Steamed cauliflower, frozen peas and beans, and fresh spinach, served on a bed of couscous. No sauce, no spices, no nothing added, just nude food, and I'm chuffin full.

It's the weekend, I hope you have a good one. Get off your backside and get out in the sunshine. I want to see you running, walking, gardening, cycling, roller skating, skateboarding, kicking a ball about, playing tennis, in fact anything that makes you move.  Toodle pip.

  1. I like your hair - a very good cut. I normally don't ever bother to cut my hair but as it's very long but I did go to the local college and get it cut and coloured last year. I normally shove a hat on if I'm going out or answer the door. As my hair is long and black, I don't want to shock any poor soul. Natalie

  3. Yup as we get older a short hair cut is better. I'm not sure about colouring my hair anymore either.

  4. Great haircut! Well done!! I`ve given up colouring mine ever since I had to give up my dancing. The way my eye sight`s going I couldn`t make a good job of the colouring now, so I`m glad to grow old natural with it.

  5. Nude food - brilliant :-)

My hair needs a cut too but I'm not brave enough to cut it myself.
    Yours looks great.

  6. I say this every time Ilona, you do a very good job of your hair. Why pay someone to do it. Cutting short hair isn't easy especially the back - so well done. Debbie.

  8. Very impressed with your haircutting skills! Looks great. Had a walk in the sunshine today, to and from our craft club so 2 miles all round. Nothing compared to your walks, but a good walk for me! Gardening on the agenda for the weekend, so more moving there - hope you have a good weekend xx

  9. Hi Ilona, You cut your hair so good! I go to the salon every now and then to get a cut because I have thick hair (very thick) and I need to get a professional to thin it out especially in the back. I usually cut my bangs but that's about it. I wait so long in between haircuts that the woman who cuts my hair gets sore arms by the time she's done. She teases me about it all the time. I think it's a hint actually that I should come more often.

  10. That's a really nice cut! I did mine yesterday too with my clippers. I'm taking your advice and will be off out today. Will catch the bus into Exeter to see a film. This alternates a bit of exercise for the poorly leg out in the sunshine with periods of sitting down! Enjoy your weekend x

  13. Hi Ilona,,,,No artificial colour left in it? That made me laugh, was it meant to be a joke? Surely the latest growth (the roots of your hair) is the natural colour of it? Do grow the "artifical colour" out, you'll see! Cheaper not to colour it and how wonderful to be your natural self.

  14. Wow that's amazing how on earth do you do that? I once cut my own fringe and I looked like I had been attacked with a hedge trimmer! I am very impressed I wish I could do that!
