I made a card

Hello. What a miserable day it's been outside, overcast and dark all day. We had extra food at Crafty Club this morning, it was our Christmas Party. I took a bottle of sherry, only one other person, and me, had some, the rest were happy with coffee and tea. Our club Christmas Tree which we made for the charity exhibition is now installed in our village church. I didn't get to see the exhibition, so I'll take a photo some time this week when the post office is open in the church.
I stopped sending Christmas cards a few years ago. The postage is so expensive now, it costs more than the cards. There is one exception, I do send one to my friend Carol, this one will be going to her new home. I don't like using glue on cards, in fact I hardly use glue at all for anything. I prefer to stitch pictures and messages onto blank cards. A scrap of fabric frayed at the edges, a piece of sticky back silver foil, and two pieces cut from old cards.
Neat stitching on the inside.
I put a blank piece of paper inside to hide the stitching and to write the message on. It's held in place by embroidery thread tied into a bow inside.
People are getting their Christmas lights out now. I posted a picture of this display last year, and I see a few more characters have been added. I like this one because it's not over the top, and doesn't look quite so tacky as some of them. It's the best one in our village.

No news on Bugsy tonight, he is comfortable. I had arranged to have lunch with my sister on Wednesday but I have cancelled that. I don't want to leave him.

Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

  2. The card is lovely. One year, at Christmas, I was so broke that I couldn't even afford cards so I made some, receiving a lot of complements. Dollar stores (where I tend to buy what few cards I now send) didn't really exist back then. I am told to also check thrift and charity shops for good cards for a song!

  3. Lovely card! I had never thought of stitching a card, great idea. I am sending prayers for you and Bugsy. Difficult time in life.

I am in your walking challenge and am really enjoying it although I won't make 1000 miles. But lately I am doing 4 miles a day, a number unheard of before now, so thank you again!

  4. i spent last night making a card to send to a 5 year old who will die quite soon, his wish is for lots of cards so I stitched one up using applique and embroidery stitches on my machine. will get it in the post today.

  5. I think that card's very pretty ... and the stitching is impressively neat considering you'd downed a half-bottle of sherry!

  8. Lovely idea for cards. I wonder what the electricity is to run all these lights and decorations, they do look nice, but too much faff for me x

  9. We never bother with christmas cards only to my 2 smaller grandaughters, I don't see the sense of them. Most are bought in boxes and not a lot of thought goes into them. I tell everyone not to send them to me but there are a few people who still doggedly send them out each year.
Have been following your walks and loved reading about them, so many pretty places up there.

  11. Your card is lovely because it's made with thought and care. I'm afraid I loathe the garden lighted displays that some people erect in their gardens, although some folk donate to charity to do it which is admirable. Best wishes for Bugsy. Amanda

  12. Don't do cards either. Given up feeling badly for those who send them and I do not reciprocate. Good thoughts sent out to Bugsy, we have a 19 year old cat and monitor her health closely. She still has mostly good days.

  13. I still send cards but only to people we hardly ever see, just once every 10 years or so. Buy them at the thrift store each year in little lots, they are very cheap just after Christmas as I am not talented with art like you :) Sorry about Bugsy, I know your furry family is no different than the rest of your family.

  14. We used to sew cards at school, it's a dying art. I'm glad you're staying with Bugsy, I'm sure your sister understands.

  15. Lovely card Ilona. I really appreciate hand made cards and always keep them. I don't really like Christmas much although I like a real tree and enjoy decorating it. Thinking of you and Bugsy. Kristel

  17. I send cards to family and friends who are living far away, we are a family that likes to migrate. I think people are getting more into christmas lights now and most of it I think looks nice and cheerful on dull winter days but some of it is over the top. Then I am reminded how lucky we are that we live in a rich country and can afford to celebrate like this.
