Free hairdressing

Hello. It's that time again, I can't remember when I last cut my hair. It's starting to get on my nerves so it has to be done. I've trimmed my fringe a few times, but the length in my neck is bothering me.
I know a very cheap hairdresser, it costs nowt, and she makes a good job of it. I don't have to go very far, just outside the back door. That's better. I don't take too much off because it doesn't suit me. A tidy up is all that's needed. A few chops here and there with the scissors. Not so much weight now, dragging it down.

Yes, that will do nicely. Come back in six months.

I've got some new specs on the way, thought I ought to, I haven't changed them for four years. The optician says my eyes are fine, a slight change in prescription. Specs ready on the 4th.

Had to take Heidi to see Marian the vet this afternoon. She was drooling excessively and crying. Marian couldn't find anything amiss and the drooling stopped. She seems alright now, and has just scoffed a pouch and a half of food.

My train ticket has been purchased, £15.50 from Blackpool to Carlisle. The hotel at Carlisle has been booked. Then I start walking. Hope my body holds out, it isn't getting any younger, ha ha.

I made some more shopping bags today for the cat stall on Monday. Another friend has donated stuff to sell, I have to go and collect it in the morning.

I'll sign off now and go for a walk before bed time. Thanks for popping in, have a nice weekend, we'll catch up soon.

  1. Your new hairstyle is very flattering, I love your no nonsense approach to everything. Can't stand most women these days who spend hours and pounds on hairdos and makeup. Looking forward to your photos of your walking holiday, you always make it fun and interesting!

  4. I don't know how you manage to cut your own hair, it looks great. Clever lady. Poor Heidi, sounds awful and most worrying, glad she seems okay now. Perhaps she licked something off her fur that was horrid. One of my cats was drooling a lot once, we discovered that his tongue had been split a bit at the tip no doubt by another cat in a fight. Enjoy your trip, will look forward to sharing it with you. Jean.

  6. Nice hair! It's amazing how much you save with a DIY hairdo. I've only been to the hairdressers twice in 15 years since we came to France - the last time was when I was doing part of the wedding service for a friend. The first time, come 12 noon sharp, the hairdresser said it was now lunch time, and I had to leave (with wet hair!) and just to shake my head and run my fingers through it to dry! I was gobsmacked and couldn't argue as my French wasn't good enough. Since then, I've done my own, and dear OH & kids, and saved a fortune.

  7. Great haircut probably better than you'd get at the hairdresser, they never do it how you want it.
Maybe heidi ate something outside that upset her, glad she's okay now.

  10. I'm a hairdresser and I agree that it's all over priced. I colour my own hair now and cut it when needed. You have done a lovely job and I so enjoy your payed back no nonsense lifestyle. I look forward to your daily posts for incentives and awesome ideas. Glad I found your blog. Xx

  11. That free hairdresser is an amazing person to know. I have a free hairdresser to, my special man friend. he wields those clippers like a King on both myself and my son! Well done girl!

  12. Your success is based a lot on the fact your hair seems thick and coarse, a good attribute to have. My hair is fine and thinning, so not so easy to get it to behave. My hairdresser hurt her hand and had surgery. I refuse to pay someone to butcher my hair, so I waited on her. I always can cut my bangs/fringe and the sides. However, there is no way I can layer the back. So, I have had a friend cut the length twice. Now, my hair is behaving much better than when I paid to have a professional layer it. I tried cutting the back length once and butchered it, hence having a friend cut it off a bit. It is good to be a $0 for hair care. I also quit spraying it and the texture is improving. However, I will never give up the color. You did a good job.

  13. Hi Ilona! Great job on the hair. I cut my hair too, looks better than when the stylist does it. I figured out a way to get a fab result by watching youtube videos. Hope the kitty is feeling better. Have a great time on your walking trip!

  17. A video on how to cut your own hair would be very popular I think, Ilona :) Glad the girl is okay now. Kind regards, Eilidh x

  18. Your hair looks fab. I've ditched the dye letting my silvers come through saving me approx £700 a year yep outrageous and now I'm no longer working not doable also cutting it myself and because it's curly doesn't really matter if it's not quite even lol.

  19. I think your hair looks great although I also feel it looks fine when it gets longer. Well done for cutting it yourself. Really pleased Heidi is feeling better. It's such a worry when our beloved companions are under the weather. Enjoy your walking trip. Kristel

  20. Why pay when you can do a good job like that. I cut and colour my own hair. The last cut I had my daughter gave me a long bob (short at the back long at the front with choppy layers). Its the best cut I have ever had.

  21. Your hair looks great, I doubt I would ever be able to get the back of my own hair as straight as you have. I cut Alan's hair, but that's easy just a whizz round with clippers on number 4 for his head and number 2 setting for his beard and eyebrows. We must have saved a fortune over the years on haircuts for him.

  22. Good job on the hair cut. I do my own too, I used to hate going to the hairdresser, so I just stopped. I stopped dying it too a couple of years ago, I have also saved a fortune with these 2 changes. The funny thing is, I like it better now! Karen
