Another car camping trip. Time to get up.

Hello. Bet you wondered where I was, ha ha. I have been camping again. This time in Derbyshire. I booked myself into Middle Hills Farm near Grangemill, not far from Matlock. Arrived just after 1pm, and put the tent up, it was very windy, that's fun. Reminded me of folding up a lorry tarpaulin in the wind where you need six pairs of hands. I had some lunch and went for a walk. It was a short one, only four miles. Encounters with cows, no problem at all. Treat them with respect, talk to them, and they let you pass. It's curiosity which makes them come towards you. Boy was it windy. The evening was spent with cooking noodles for dinner, and sewing.
The next morning........

I've got more videos, and some pics, will get them out shortly.
Thanks for popping in, Toodle pip.  ilona

  1. I believe you when you say that your bed is comfy, Ilona, but it certainly doesn't look comfy. My neck hurt just looking at the angle of your head there. Maybe for a video sometime you can show us how exactly you set-up your bed. What do you pad it with? I have a kink in my back just thinking about sleeping in my car. *haha* ~Andrea xoxo

  2. It is a sun lounger laid flat. I have the original foam mattress, plus another two layers of foam covered in a cotton sheet. I have two pillows, and a duvet on top of me. I normally sleep with three pillows on my bed.

  4. I think I've been whizzing past you in the car again Ilona! Got caught in the rain crossing Elton Common the other night, but lovely evening walk from Monyash, had Lathkill Dale completely to ourselves.

Have you been to Matlock Meadows or Tagg Lane Dairy for an ice cream yet? Winster Community Shop is good.

Have had a few iffy experiences with cows round here though!

    (I live in Matlock)

    1. I almost made it to Elton Common but ran out of time. I did get to Winster, some photo's coming. Lovely village.

    2. I'll look forward to those - we walked down the Limestone Way intending on going to Elton but changed our minds and went to Winster... much nicer and more interesting to get back up the steep hill via all the little paths in the village.

I'm glad your campsite is not overcrowded - the one behind the Miner's Standard is disturbingly full even if you discount the virus. The crops have been harvested at Elton Common very recently and it is not such a nice walk as when you went straight through the middle of several different crops - so you've not missed out.

  5. I have just been reading The Mail on line and there is an article in there showing how to do this!.I felt like ringing them up and telling them that Ilona did this way before you lot even thought of it!!.Im sure that you could teach them a thing or two about car camping!.Hope you have a lovely sunny Saturday,xx

    1. Someone has just sent me an email with a link to that article. The Daily Mail have a banner across half the page wanting people to tick a box for targeted advertising. I won't do that, so this stops me reading any articles more than just the headlines. That's fine by me, it limits my time on there.
