Walking Group check in. How are you doing?

Good morning, it's the first of the month and that means check in day for the International Walking Group members. It's raining again. Thought it had finished yesterday as most of the day was dry, but it started last night and has continued overnight. Never mind, it can't last forever, can it?

Here is a throwback picture from happy times walking in Bamford, Derbyshire. Just to remind us that the sun will come back eventually.

So how are we all doing with the walking challenge? I have finished the nine months at 760 miles. Not as much as I would have liked, but there you go, rain stopped play. Still ahead of the game but only just.

Let's see how everyone else is doing. Please report in here on this blog post with your miles. Cheer each other on, support each other in our endeavours to keep moving and to keep fit. You can come back to this post any time if you miss it today. Good luck everybody.

  1. HI there folks! Another soggy wet day here, blah.. Not a big total but I have really enjoyed my walks this month along the nearby cycle path, with the added bonus of picking a few containers of wild blackberries growing alongside! Total for month is 19.5 miles. Year so far total is 235.9miles. OK I'm going to have to get a shifty on for next 3 months so let's keep moving all! Good luck!

    1. As long as you keep moving, Gillian, that's the deal. The blackberries are the bonus.

  2. Hi Ilona and all the walking group. It's raining heavily here in the East Midlands too. I managed 94 miles in September. We had some fabulous weather mid month and that certainly helped. I like it when the temperatures cool off a little. I'm looking forward to walking through fallen leaves and photographing all the wonderful Autumn colours this month.
My total for the year so far is 799 miles. A bit ahead of schedule and better than I manged by this time last year...but that was an exceptionally hot summer.
    Happy Walking everybody

  4. Thanks for keeping access for us to last year's blogs - I just checked back to Oct'18 check in and discovered that I am 15 miles up on last year's total. Woohoo! That's the boost i needed to get me outside today - and loads of places are giving away free coffee today, so I will make sure I hit a venue on the homestretch....

    1. Yes, you can go back in time on the blog, right back to the beginning if you like, ha ha. Good idea to compare year on year, then you can see your progress. I have read about the free coffee today, I am ok thanks, just had my elevenses.

  5. Bit less this month as the weather has been quite poor around here. Don't mind it a bit wet and windy but storm weather is too much. However still did 81 miles and brings my total to 872 miles for the year. My back is so much better for walking twice a day. Well done everyone, keep going.

    1. Glad to hear it. I think sitting around all day is the worst thing for a bad back. Even a gentle exercise like walking half an hour or maybe an hour each day, can help.

  6. Hello Ilona and all fellow walkers, in September I walked 101 kilometers. Couldn't do a lot of cycling, so that was only 43 kilometers. But still daily happily moving. So beneficial to my all over health. Thanks for being part of this great and encouraging walking group you started, Ilona.
While on a week's holiday in the Czech Republic I even walked 21 kilometers...up and down hills. Had a wonderful week.
    Well done everyone.
    Cheers,

    Jeanneke.

  8. I've no idea how many miles I've walked this month.I'm on holiday and walking quite a bit but my pedometre isn't working. The winds are strong and I've not risked the hills for a couple of days.Yesterday I had to go to a clinic to have a tick removed from my waist which and they wouldn't give me antibiotics unless a bulls eye rash develops.Today I walked along a muddy, cow pat path and just around a corner were cows so I hurried past slipping as I went on the poo.At the sea the tide was in and rough but I helped my lovely lily down into a stream that runs into it as she loves to lay down.I then struggled to get her and myself out and a lovely young woman rushed over with her arms out to help me- I am looking my age now.I then went to buy a doggy ice cream and one for me too- only dog one available and I would have to wait 20 minutes,so just dogs treat. It wasn't the usual sort and they turned their noses up and £2.60.Strangely this tub had a picture of my top dog breed on x

  9. 110.5 this month and total to date 862.5 so I might be able to have December off at this rate although mud does tend to slow me down! Is it less than 2 weeks since that glorious weather on our walk, Ilona? Definitely a different season now! Vicki in the East Riding

Life dramas have prevented me from walking as much as I would like to unfortunately, but have still managed 139 miles for August and September giving me a total of 635 miles (I think). Weather is warming up here in southern Victoria so hoping to ramp it up a bit. Well done everyone, you are all an inspiration not to give up !!

Missed the August check in (I seem to miss every second month!) but August total of 108 miles plus September total of 137 miles makes 1088 miles so far for the year. Will try to do another 400 or so before the end of December. I think I will set a goal of 1500 altogether. I am lucky to live in a place with fairly consistent weather most of the year so rarely do rain or extreme heat keep me inside. :-)
