Mirrors

Good morning. I'm going to be a bit busy today. I'll leave you with this.

I used to think that old people were just old people.
Not any more.

  1. I've always held the opinion that old people are just young people with wrinkles and grey hair, still the same person inside, with more experience and wisdom. I hated the way I looked when I was younger (looking back at photos, I'm not sure why - wish I'd just enjoyed having smooth skin and beautiful grey free hair!). But I'm nearly 50 now and I'm pretty chuffed with how I look and the size I am. Lovely video x

  2. I found this quite depressing. Maybe it's because I'm 56 next month and in poor health - like SusanM, I hated the way I looked when I was younger and am only just now coming to terms with my image in the mirror. Sorry for my first comment on your lovely blog to be such a downer.

  3. Brilliant video, it has made my day. I thought that I was alone in looking in the mirror and seeing a young girl with long plaits and big ribbon bows, or a teenager with mini skirt, skinny rib top and plastic jewelry.

  4. That was wonderful. My mum is 90 and I know she looks in the mirror and sees the wrinkles but inside she is still the younger person she has always been. The one,who relates to the great grand kids who are in their late teens. I think it's sad that sometimes the younger generation don't value the experience that they can garner from the elderly. For they too have lived a life.

  5. That's quite sad and haunting music too. I think at 50, most people still look good, it's when you approach 60 and beyond, reality hits home. I get a shock everytime I look in the mirror, I don't recognise the person looking back, just like the video.
I'm thankful to have good health, and still a size 12, and keep active, like you MQ.

  6. There's something very melancholy about that.

You don't realise until you start to get older that inside you feel exactly the same as you did when you were younger. There is more wisdom and knowledge after decades of learning from things that life throws at you ..... but you feel just the same.

  12. Great photo to share. We tend to not see how we are aging when we look in the mirror.

  13. That is lovely and very moving.
Time passes so quickly, a good reminder to grab life with both hands.
They say the best time is now, enjoy your day Ilona and everyone.

  15. You think old people are just old people until you become one.

  16. reminded me of when I told a care worker that the elderly gent she was looking after had a double degree in art and horticulture and had been the head of art at the senior school he taught in. She was a lovely girl and gave him the best of care but boy did the attitude change after my 'bon mots'.

  17. I so enjoyed the video Ilona. There are currently a lot of interviews with older people about WW2. It is amazing to see the person telling their story as a pilot etc showing a pic of their younger self at the time in uniform. I find it so interesting.
