Hello Evesham

Hello. The last day of hols. I waved Lovely Grey off to work, had breakfast, and set about dismantling the tent and packing everything into the car. My plan was to break the journey up by popping into somewhere for a couple of hours or so. Cheltenham looks appealing, wonder if they have a Park and Ride. A break at Taunton Dene Services and a quick natter to Caz, then check the time. I had an idea I might pop into my nephews house near Coventry as well, but I need to time it to arrive after 4.30pm when he gets back from work. I decided I didn't have enough spare time for Cheltenham, one on the list for the future.
Evesham looked a bit more doable. Get off the motorway at junction nine and take the scenic route through Evesham, Stratford, Warwick, Leamington Spa, and Coventry. Yep, good plan, that would give me a couple of hours at Evesham. I found a parking place in a side street with no restrictions. We went walkabout. Love this beautiful church, it's St Mary's and St Egwins Catholic Church. Love the detailed stonework and the ornate windows.
At a main crossroads in the town is Ye Olde Red Horse pub.

This is the Almonry Museum and Heritage Centre, which was originally part of the Benedictine Abbey.

Beyond the Abbey grounds is the Abbey Park, a steep slope down to the River Avon. Rocky admiring the view from the little bridge over the lily pond.

This is a 15th Century Merchants House in Market Square.

Here we have the Eof Statue in the Market Square. I won't go into lengthy details, but if you want to know more, please look at the Town Council web site.  Here is a better site, which shows the artist and the sculpture in the making.

We finished our visit with a treat, a Magnum ice cream. Rocky looks intently at me as I unwrap it, he knows what's coming next, ha ha. I get the chocolate, and he gets a taste of the ice cream. Only a small taste mind you, it's too nice to share. Evesham is well worth another visit at some point in the future, I only saw a small part of it.

The traffic wasn't too bad through the towns to my nephews house, he arrived a few minutes after I did. I spent a couple of hours there, and then made another stop at my Uncles house in Burton. It was a long day, finally landed home just before midnight.

Phew, I feel like I have just done the whole lot a second time. Thanks for following our journey. I have talked Rocky into doing his own post about the trip, just need to familiarize him with the computer ;o))

  3. I think you might take dictation from him. You understand his language, so you could translate for us. Some Rocky's eyeview pix would be just the ticket, too.

  5. Hi.Evesham is so charming,I think. The old buildings that seem so well maintained are a testament to the craft and skill of the builders of that time.I wonder if first growth lumber has something to do with the fact that they are still standing.I read that anything built after the second world war will not stand as long over the years due to the quality of lumber,in that is is likely third growth or some such thing. This expert said that was why anything before that (if maintained) will stand the test of time and it's ravages better than anything built today with wood.(excluding steel)That sculpture has a medieval vibe to it and is very unique.Your country is filled with so much beauty and history(big wistful sigh)and as a gardener I must say that there are plenty of green thumbs over there.Am glad you were able to see family again this time around, and bloggy friends.Loved all the photos and info of your holiday,Ilona, read it all with a smile.Thank you and rocky for sharing it all with us.Bye for now,D.

  12. Hiya was wondering as a fellow cat owner if you know what's best to give a cat with a dicky tum, she's one years old and hungry? Can they have rice? Thanks B

    1. Hi, hope you don't mind if I chip in. Yes, plain boiled rice is OK, some of the Hills tins of cat treatment food have this as an ingredient, if you buy Sainsbury's cat food in gravy you can use the gravy to add nutrients, also, when one of my cats had a problem my vet said Sainsbury's was a good brand, something about some additives not being in there. I also cut out her cat crunchy biscuits and this helped until she got over it. I hope this helps. Elaine (with 10 cats!)

    2. Hi Dawn. Do you know why she has a dicky tummy? Not pregnant is she? Is she being sick, coughing up a hairball, or has she got runny poo? If it only lasts a couple of days, probably nothing serious. Has she been wormed? My old cat coughed up a massive hairball yesterday, as big as my finger, no wonder he didn't want anything to eat. As soon as that was gone he started scoffing again.

Thank you Elaine for those useful suggestions. Rice will be alright. Chicken also. Cats can be so finnicky, mine will eat chicken one day but not the next, will have some tuna fish when I open the can but won't eat the rest of it, and will eat half a pouch of As Good As it Looks, but not the other half later. Drives me nuts.

She can last a day without food, but always have fresh water close by and available. If she refuses to eat for a couple of days and starts to look tired, maybe a vet visit is needed. Let us know what happens.

  14. Thanks for your replies she's fine in herself she's spayed, flead and wormed she hasn't been sick but has had loose stools the last 2 days. She wouldn't eat the rice but has had chicken yesturday and today and so far so good nothing in the tray she's eating drinking and playing as normal. Is your old cat OK now ilona after parting? Maisie has brought a couple up she's forever grooming and no matter how many times she's brushed she still moults like mad. I have another cat but he's always had a hearty constitution x
