All kitted out.

Howzabout this then. I splashed out on some new gear yesterday. My right foot was getting a bit damp  when I walked through wet grass so I though it was about time to get some new boots. Go Outdoors has a very large selection of footwear, and I was lucky that they had what I wanted, a pair exactly the same. These Berghaus boots are so comfortable, and accommodate my bunions perfectly. These are £93. My other boots will be fine for dry days, I like to have several pairs for different types of walking.

I have a new jacket, and a pair of waterproof overtrousers, both of which I needed. My walking kit was getting scruffy, I've had it for a long time. The old jacket will be used for dog walking, and the waterproof trousers I had before were never much good anyway. So that's me ready then. I also bought a pair of wellies, and some other camping bits and bobs, tent pegs, gas for my little stove, chemical for the Portapotti, and some bungee elastics. Everything I need for £183.

After Go Outdoors I called in at Aldi on the way back and did my food shopping. Very quiet again, I am going to stick to the 7 - 8pm times, it suits me.
Did anyone see the sunset last night? I was out at 10pm for my walk. Not particularly good shots as it was a long way in the distance and I had to zoom in.

I've been working on the Directors chair refurb today. The frame is painted, and my friend gave me a tin of varnish but I'm not happy with the result. The varnish is like treacle and hasn't gone on very well, it looks streaky. I'm going to sand it down and get a new tin of varnish.
That's me done, thanks for popping in. Toodle pip.  ilona

    1. I think I have a boot fetish. I get every last bit of wear out of my boots, and I do think boots are kind of sexy.

  4. Oooh! I'd love a good pair of walking boots, but my feet are short and extra wide so finding a pair that fits well is impossible. I'll stick with sneakers.

    1. It's a pity you are not in the UK, there is a factory shop in Yorkshire that will measure your feet and make a pair of boots exactly to your specification. I suppose I could have made a trip there myself, but it would have cost at least twice as much as those I have bought off the shelf. When I am not wearing boots I wear trainers/sneakers. I love comfy feet.

  5. I have Berghaus boots - I needed a new pair and found mine in TKMaxx for an absolute steal of a price (£20 or something if I remember rightly) - the only pair of boots in the shop and in MY size!! They are very comfy. You're all set now then. Enjoy when you go.

    1. I like a bargain as you know, I would be chuffed to find the boots that I wanted at a super low price. Maybe in the future I will browse, but at this moment in time I shop where I know I will get what I want/need, to reduce the time I am in contact with people. Berghaus boots are great.

    2. At the moment, in this time of Plague!, the likes of TK Maxx is the last shop I want to be in. Any shop come to that as I'm shielding. We are buying everything on line. With my Berghaus boots, I didn't even need to break them in - just put them on and wore them.

  13. I am glad for you that your retirement finances have got to the point that you can pay for some more expensive stuff that improves your quality of life. Very much looking forward to hearing about your camping adventures.....this is when I wish I did not live on a small island and could go driving afar. I did take a couple of little adventure tours that were going cheap for the locals while we have no tourists. A bargain for me and some money for the local tour companies that are going broke.

    1. Hawaii sounds like a paradise island to me. I went to the Scilly Isles once and thought it would be a lovely place to live. But after I had walked all over it I wondered, what next.

  14. I can't speak for the UK, since I am in the US, but I have found paint to hold up better than varnish. For myself, I would paint it and forget it.

    Pretty sexy boots, Ilona!

    1. The chair was painted in black gloss but it was a bit scratched. I wanted to change the colour of the top part, but didn't want to buy any paint, so I used what I had, household emulsion. This needs a coat of varnish to seal it.
