No news is good news

I think I'm going to have to stop listening to the news on the radio, I can't stand all the bickering that is going on between the political parties. I suppose it is only to be expected in the run up to an election, and it is going to get a whole lot worse the closer we get to it.

I used to be quite interested in politics, especially when it concerns matters that might affect me and my life, but these days the politicians just want to score points off each other rather than run the country. Some of the interviews end up as slanging matches, I get so annoyed I just want to bang their heads together.

What really makes me blow a gasket is to listen to them discussing the financial deficit, and how they are going to get us out of this mess. It sounds to me like the UK is bankrupt, but that's hardly surprising, their business acumen is appalling. They pay people who have no intention of looking for work, they pay women to have lots of kids, they let anyone into the country and give them anything they want, and they prop up businesses that are about to collapse, then allow the directors to carry on paying themselves massive bonuses.

And then they have the gall to say there is not enough money to look after our older generation, and they want us all to pay into an insurance so we can have care in the home. Excuse me Government, what happened to all the income tax and national insurance contributions I have paid for the last fortyfive years? Mr Brown, what have you done with my money? I didn't have a choice, you took it from my wages. I thought that was my insurance, that it was going to be used to look after me. And now you want more, because you have squandered all the money I have already given you.

I'm going to have to stop listening to the news.

Quite a good rant, that. Do you shout rude things at the TV?

  2. Here here Ilona. I couldn't agree more. My husband and I both work for just above the minimum wage and we are finding it increasingly more difficult to make ends meet while we see people around us doing sweet F A sitting on their backsides watching their flat screen TVs and having more kids that we are paying for. It makes my blood boil. There isn't much that's great about Great Britain now and it will only get worse. There probably won't even be a state pension when we get to retirement age.

  3. I agree that you become fed up with the bickering and back stabbing and I feel that there is no one who is being honest with us about the financial situation, I think it will get worst before it gets better. At this moment in time I dont have a clue who I would vote for, I dont want to waste my vote, but struggle to make sense of it all x

  4. I don't normally rant out loud, Mike, just seethe on the inside. I don't have a tele, thank goodness, or I might chuck something at it. I haven't the faintest idea who to vote for either, they are all as bad as each other.

  5. Stuns me how much money this country wastes on things it can't afford and we can't afford to keep people on benefits when they could work and then we would be able to fund the elderly who have paid tax all their lives!

  6. I couldn't agree more Ilona. My Nan is in a care home now and her money is dangerously low now. Money she has sat on all her life and quite a bit of it too, is now nearly all gone due to one year in a care home. My Mum said it would be cheaper to send her on a world cruise. The amount of money the care home take per night is less than a world cruise, per night!! Now they are having meetings to see if they weill allow Nan to stay there with social services helping to pay the bill or whether my Mum and Dad would need to sell their house to pay for Nans fees!! Disgusting way to treat the older generation. They should be looked after in their old age with the government footing the care home fees to keep them safe, warm and well fed. Not niceat all. I hope I never need a care home. I too don't think the state pension will be around in fifteen years time when I officially reach retirement age!

  7. Well, Ilona, you have stirred up a hornets nest with this blog and rightly so.
I have recommended to my 20 year old Grandson that he leave the country and find somewhere better to live his life, what a thing to have to do !!
When we were younger we thought that the U.K. was the best, but sadly not any more, I feel sorry for all the young people out there with no future due to greedy, selfish money orientated politicians who only think of lining their own pockets. We could pick up the paper and try any job we fancied until we found our niche, not any more though.
Good for you, you rant on if you want, I am sure you will get plenty of support.

  8. Yes, I feel sorry for the young people as well. This country is not Great Britain any more, the floodgates have been opened for anyone who wants to come here and have an easy life, it is sinking fast. I do despair.

  9. The majority of the population agrees with you there, I`m sure. Sadly, the population has little influence to change things. I`m also telling my kids to seek their lives elsewhere, and wish they find a better way to live wherever they might want to go.
