The tooth of it is..........

Hello. I got all excited there for a minute, an email arrived from my dentist. My first thought was that oooh, maybe they are starting to do check ups again. Maybe I will get my teeth looked at, maybe I will be able to go back to the surgery and see Jim my dentist.

No such luck. My dentist was taken over by Bupa about a year ago. It was called Oasis, before they sold out. I remained on their books as an NHS patient, nothing changed, same staff.

So what was the email about? Sales, that's what. Invisalign discrete braces. The clear aligners are invisible while you are having your teeth straightened. Bit late for that. Spread the cost of your treatment with 0% patient finance.

NHS dentistry is going down the pan, it has been for a long time. I don't hold out much hope for it ever getting back to how it was.

Cheerio for now. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. I've just had a communication from my dentist telling me they've closed the local bit of the practice to have everything in Ipswich. I don't want to go all the way there to get my teeth looked at but they have £120 of my money that I had to leave as a deposit for work that should have been done in April! No NHS anywhere around

    1. How far away is Ipswich? I think we are all stuck if we want to stay NHS. I am going to push my dentist for an NHS appointment. Don't hold out much hope though. I think we will need to wear masks to hide our rotten teeth.

  2. We were lucky enough to be offered a check up a few weeks ago. But again, a huge rigmahole. Temperature taken outside the building, lots of disclaimers to sign beforehand. The mouthwash was diluted bleach.. I was almost sick. Ridiculous

    1. If I am lucky enough to get a check up, I will take a bottle of water with me. Thanks for the warning.

  3. Our dental costs are not covered by a NHS type plan in Canada. One can get coverage through their workplace and seniors in Ontario now have a dental plan, like the NHS one. Unfortunately getting anything done is most difficult. I've been waiting two years for a cleaning and they still don't have a staff dentist, or a participating private dentist at the health unit. And don't get me started on doctors......

  4. At least in Canada, you have SOME dental coverage!! Here in the USA, Medicare for Seniors only covers full dentures, uppers or lowers or both. But you have to have all your good teeth pulled out first!!
