All you need is cats

I think we have a few cat lovers amongst us, so here is a little treat for anyone who has a soft spot for our feline friends. As you know I have three cats, Bugsy, Mayze, and Heidi. Yesterday I had in my garden, five cats, sometimes there are six, if Micky decides to pay us a visit. I tried to get them all in one photo, but you know what cats are like, they take no notice when you ask them to pose for the camera. So, in the pic below we have four cats enjoying the sunshine. Can you spot them?
Heidi viewing the scene from afar, on a pallet covering the potato beds. I'm going to have to remove the coverings soon, as the potato shoots are starting to poke through the compost.
Bugsy's favourite place, dozing on the decking made out of reclaimed timber and pallets, next to the garage. Bugsy is 17 years old, I have had him since he was a ten month old kitten.
This is Garcia, he lives three doors down, and has been coming for years, he is about 13 years old. He wanders in and out as if he owns the place, ha ha.
This is the new kid on the block, I can't remember his name, he pops in occasionally. He lives across the road close to a busy junction. It's a wonder he hasn't been knocked over by now, but he seems very streetwise. He knows my voice now, when I stop and say hello.
Mayze is not being very sociable, preferring to keep her distance and hide under the bench outside the back door.
I took the following photo's today. The weather has been awful, quite cold, just like winter, so we have been indoors a lot. Bugsy likes the arm chair in the living room. Isn't he a sweetheart. I love the way he looks at me with one eye open.
Then he closes it and says 'go away, leave me alone'.
Another little peep at me.
And off he goes to sleep. He's got a really loud purr.
Heidi has discovered the box of knitting wool on the sideboard. Perfect for snuggling into.
No, I'm not moving, you can't have your wool, I'm using it for a bed.
Mayze is in the spare room, on a cushion, on top of a box. Cat's always like to be high up.
Ooooh, I must have a stretch, that's better.
She is so beautiful, well I would say that, wouldn't I, ha ha.
Please excuse my little pusscat indulgence today. By the way, I forgot to mention, Sue rehomed a rescue cat last week. The right people came along, village location, have had cats before. Perfect.

Have a nice Bank Holiday weekend everyone. I won't be going anywhere, I'd rather stay at home when everyone else is off work. Toodle pip.

  1. Aw the cats are beautiful! We haven't had a cat (or any pets) for the last few years as we moved to a semi rural area but travelled up and down to the city for work. Now we would like to get a dog but still travel up one day so not sure what we'd do with the dog. Hubs and I disagree on where we'll get the dog, I'd like a rescue pup but he's adamant that he wants a 'brand new' puppy. As the dog is going to be his responsibility at this point I have to go along with his plans.
Love your kitty photos, they are SO cute!

  2. Beautiful cats! I only have one now and he's my buddy. He follows me around. I don't let him out, though; busy road.
At once time I had two cats who used to lie in my yarn box and when I went to knit with it the cat hairs had clung to it so much that I had to throw it out.
Read your blog every day, and I especially love the pictures of your walks.

  4. Or hamsters if hubby is allergic to kitties as I now own a rodent. I still love cats and loved them growing up. Now I resign myself to visiting my Moms Kitty who was adopted as a stray at age approx 13. She was lost in the wild for over a year as had been tatooed on the ear then identified by the SPCA. Her owners had moved and when they were called with the id they didn't want her anymore. She stayed at the no kill shelter for over a year. She was so shy the first three years that Mom had her she wouldn't love up anyone but her and absolutely refuses to go outside. Now she realizes I am family too and will hop in my lap for loving (only second place to Mom). Cheers!

  8. Thank you for the cat photos! I love the cat conference in your backyard, and while all three of your cats sound fabulous, I do have a soft spot for tortoisehell and calico cats :)

    1. Hehe, "tortoisehell" - a Freudian slip in more ways than one - our own tortie whom we adopted three years ago was a shy, reticient cat who ran under the bed at the slightest noise. Three years later Madame rules the house and we don't regret a moment of it!

    1. When we bought this house the 3 cats that were here stayed here with us, the last one died about 8 years ago. We had a dog for 10 years, so didn't get a new cat, now we have nothing.
But when we visit friends with cats I realise how much I miss them and seeing your photos makes me wish for a cat even more.

  17. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. What a wonderful post. I used to have a cat but don't anymore, my son's allergic unfortunately. My cat was black and white like Heidi, but I'd love a ginger tom like Bugsy, he's beautiful.

  20. Lovely, lovely cats Ilona. Your Mayze reminds me of our beautiful baby Manda, who lived to be 19.5 years old - and the last 6 years were as a diabetic. She looked very similar to your gorgeous girl! Thank you for the photos.

  21. I love seeing your cat photos - might be something to do with having cats myself!! Your cats and visitors are all gorgeous. Obviously your place is the favourite place for cats to gather. Reminds me of that Cravendale milk ad

  22. Hi, love the blog.

With regards to your walks, when is the next one, what motivates you from the planning POV, why do you chose a specific route, how uch studying of the map do you do on advance? Just in general how and why do you chose a specific route/destination?

    1. Hi Steve. I don't know when my next walk will be. It depends on the weather, depends on when my cat sitter is available, and depends on how much money I have to spare. I like to space them out throughout the year, but not walking so often in the winter.

Lots of map studying, I read maps all the time, looking for ideas. I look for places/areas that have a lot of footpaths to choose from, because I like the flexibility to walk wherever the fancy takes me. I make it up as I go along, according to the time I have available, and whether I want to push on a bit further, or pack up early. I don't choose a specific route, I choose a proposed route, which may change as I am walking.

I also read guide books, and tourist information leaflets. I like to do a mixture of long and shorter walks, sometimes I drive to a place and do a day walk, or get public transport to the start of a long walk. Because I live in the east of England, I tend to choose areas in Yorkshire and Derbyshire. It depends how long I want to drive for before I start walking.

Hope that has answered your questions.
