Good morning, every day is a fresh new start, we are lucky to be alive. I started the day as usual with a mug of coffee, and a slug of Ballycastle, Joyce's version of Baileys. The sun is shining and I am eating porridge and fruit as I look around the internet.
Yesterday was a pretty shit day. As well as Joyce's death, I was let down badly by a person who I thought was a friend, turns out she isn't. I won't go into details, no point in raking up the mess. Luckily I have other much nicer friends who are very supportive.
So, did anyone win the competition? What was that awful mess that I threw out on the lawn for the birds to eat? Yes, it has shrunk in size and I have seen birds pecking away at it.
We have a winner, one person guessed it exactly. I was looking for four words. . . . SAGE AND ONION STUFFING. Jules you are a winner. Please send me a postal address, either email, or in a comment here, which I won't publish. I will put together a bag of goodies and stick it in the post to you. Well done.
I have stuff to do today, so I'll will get on with things. No procrastination, just a positive attitude that keeps my spirits up. I am not down for long. ilona xxx

Yes,every day is a fresh start and Im pleased to see you are enjoying the sun with your coffee!Sorry to hear that you was let down by a friend..thats horrible when that happens.Still,onwards and up wards!! Well done to Jules who won your goody bag!..Im not bitter that I didnt win..and I am trying my best not to sit n sulk..cause Im not like that...Im grown up now and should realise that I cant win every thing I want..I will try not to cry and stamp my feet..and go and pour myself a large gin n tonic and sit with my arms tightly folded in the garden..lol..only joking!!!!.Hope that the sun is shining for every one.Its a beautiful day here in Leicester!.Forget the house work and get out and enjoy it while its here!xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear (of course) of the loss of your friend who died. Maybe even more I am sorry to hear of the loss of a friend who let you down. That is the sort of loss which does rankle, trouble one, as there is usually such an unfinished/sad feeling. (at least for me it has been in these situations.)...Glad you are able to put your mind to the friends who are more steadfast.
ReplyDelete-- Fun to her what your cooking project was. Funny thing is, it does sound like something I might actually have in my cupboard. Not sure what the "cooking" directions are on yours, but I will tell you what I do with a box of similar stuffing, in case you ever wish to give my "recipe" a try. ---Usually these type of mixes call for half cup of water (did yours?). So I put less than half the amount of water called for in a saucepan. Then I add a GENEROUS amount of butter. Heat until butter is melted. Then add the mix and stir quickly. Put lid on pan, and grab by sides and shake up and down so mix is heated and wetted. This most always ends in a nice fluffy "stuffing" mix.
Shame about your 'so called' friend but if she has let you down, then she wasn't a friend in the first place - so no loss there.

Sorry Ilona your "FRIEND" is not a true friend and I had one for 60 years which is so sad.

I was wondering about that 'thing' that you had to fling out into the yard. Just hearing that it had sage in it makes me shudder. But if the birds like it, then good for them!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read about your friend's passing - but it sounds as though she had a good life, was active as long as possible - and having friends like you to help her out with the dog meant that she could stay in her home even longer - which must have meant a lot to her.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend Joyce, a good friend is a treasure. I'm also sorry the person you thought was a friend turned out not to be, that is a hurtful and disappointing thing when it happens to us. I had no idea what the 'thing' you pitched out was, glad the birds are enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your friends passing. My Aunty Joyce is 92 in May. She loved her dogs. They are family arent they. Now she is in a fab care home that lets dogs in for them to stroke. She is partial to a Baileys too.

Sorry to hear of your friends passing Ilona. I did guess it might be stuffing but would have simply called it stuffing.. bet the birds (or rats) enjoy it
ReplyDeleteJoyce did have a good life and you were a great friend to her. It's wonderful that you all helped her keep the dog until the end. You helped make her last months very pleasant.
ReplyDeleteSorry too, about the loss of your other friend, she really disappointed you and it's not easy to get over.
I really was looking forward to hearing what the mystery food was , I was very surprised as I love sage and onion stuffing and would have thought it would be great! I hope the birds and other critters eat it up! The last thing I threw out were stale biscuits, they really were too awful for us to eat! I grew up in post War Britain and kind of pride myself on being a very flexible eater but there is a limit!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I had a lovely surprise to see my name there as the winner. Not so lovely to read about your so called friend. Sadly I think we've all been there at one time or another and the feelings of hurt or betrayal are always unpleasant.

ReplyDeleteI too am very sorry for the loss of your dear friend, Joyce. What a lucky lady to be so well supported in her own home with her faithful dog, Bailey, till the end. We all should be so lucky. Also sorry you've been let down, it must have be very upsetting for you, but it is their loss not to have you in their lives.
