A snapshot of Beverley

Hello. Tis sunny here again this Sunday morning. I was thinking I might go to the car boot sale for a bimble, but I overslept. Not like me at all, I don't know what happened but it was 8.20am when I woke up, YIKES, that's half the day gone. Not to worry, I didn't actually need anything. It's just that it's next to Tesco and I have a voucher to spend which runs out today. Plan 'B' is to go this afternoon at about 3pm, in the hope that there might be some yellow stickers to be had. In the meantime I shall potter around here and get a few jobs done. My friend Barry is out today so I have to go and let his dog Scruff out for a pee, and feed him at 12.30pm.
So, what did we do after the Lavender Field, and Wetwang chips. We stopped off at Beverley. A posh market town with olde worlde buildings and a nice Minster. An easy place to park is at Westwood near the Racecourse, a large parkland where the cows roam free. It's up to the motorists to avoid them. There is a four hour limit with no charges, plenty of time to walk to town and back.

Walking into town you go down a street called North Bar Without. There are a few timber framed houses around here. Pubs and shops also.

Once through this archway you are in North Bar Within.
Next to the archway is this magnificent building, and it's for sale. Looks lovely doesn't it. I've found it on Right Move, was only added last month, so you're in with a chance if you are interested. Price on application, but I reckon a couple of million. For a tour of the inside take a look here, it's like walking round a stately home. Not an ideal location on the corner of a busy road, but I reckon I could put up with it, ha ha.

St Mary's church is not far away near the Market Square.
Then we walked through the town to the other end to take a look at Beverley Minster. I have photographed this before, somewhere on this blog. A side view of the tower.

Rocky is happy being pushed around, he's done enough walking for one day.

We were a bit late back home, and we were all ready for some food, kitties as well. Rocky scoffed his with gusto as usual, he has a good appetite. I couldn't be bothered to cook for myself so I had a frozen portion of home made veg curry with a slice of seeded bread.

I'm off outside now, it's sunny. Make the most of it. Thanks for popping in.

PS. I'm working on a new page for the Summerhouse, from start to finish, and I've registered an interest with the Shed of the Year 2016. Not that I expect to get anywhere, they get hundreds of entries.

    1. Hi. I have never looked into boot sales in Yorkshire as it's something I wouldn't drive that far to see. Sorry, I can't help you. I don't even know where Burlington is. Maybe you could email a business in that area, someone with local knowledge. Good luck

  5. Whatever the shed of the year is I think the summerhouse ought to be on its own category!

  6. Interesting that they let the cows roam free. In the U.S., there are Native American lands that allow free-roaming cattle and driving through those areas in Arizona you really have to pay attention.

Beverley Minster is gorgeous. Wonder why a smaller community (I assume) has such a magnificent church. Maybe it has always been a posh area as you said it is now and that is why.

  7. Where I live, The New Forest, ponies, cows, donkeys and pigs roam free. The speed limit is 40, which I think is too high and there are regular accidents. It's always the fault of the motorist, too many people in a hurry to get somewhere.

  8. Fab pics of your outing! Good luck with Shed of the Year, as you should get picked as worthy winner!

  9. I like Beverley. I've got a couple of favourite sheds in Shed of the Year - one was a shipping container in Yorkshire (I think) containing lots of bits and pieces from the sister ship to the Titanic. Another one was London way - a Roman temple. Love them both. Natalie

  13. Hi. Thank you for that. I've just clicked on an external link and found a slideshow of his work. He was an extremely talented artist, there are pictures of the house and gardens how they used to look, and a self portrait. A lot of his work is in the Beverley Art Gallery, which I must take a look at next time I am there.

  16. The house is priced somewhere between £999 950 and £1.2 million (as that is where it appears if you search by price on Rightmove).

    It's lovely :-)

  17. Wow, that house was amazing inside. It doesn't look anything special from the outside - a prime example of don't judge a book by it's cover!
