It's fine without a dressing

Hello. The art sign looks good on the lamp post, very eye catching next to the shop near to the Village Hall. Let's hope it brings people out to have a look on Sunday.
I've just eaten this salad, it's completely naked, no dressing whatsoever. I've run out of the cheap mayo from the Cash and Carry, and haven't got anything else to put on it. I don't like oily dressings, in my opinion it ruins the fresh taste of the individual items,. I don't buy them nor do I make them. I might occasionally buy toasted sesame seed oil but I prefer that on steamed veg. It doesn't seem right to put oil on salad and make it greasy. So, naked it is.
I've had this bottle of whipped body oil for a few years, it lasts so long because I can't be bothered to squeeze a small amount out. I only moisturize my face, and if I squeeze the bottle on to my fingers I always manage to get too much out and I end up having to wipe off the excess. I had a little empty plastic pot so I filled it from the bottle. This makes the job a lot easier, all I have to do is dip my finger in it and get out just the right amount.

I have been given a very large window blind and a smaller one, aren't they the most ugliest things ever. My friend thought I might be able to make something with them. I don't have windows to fit them, nor would I want to hang them in here anyway. Give me curtains every time. I will take them apart and have a play with them.

Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon. Toodle pip.

  1. I am with you regarding the blinds Ilona. I think the best place for them is on the windows of business premises. The only blind I have is a roller one in the kitchen, curtains everywhere else.
I sometimes have a little sprinkle of balsamic vinegar on its own on my salad. Tangy and tasty.

    1. Yes! That was my first, horrified thought! Then I realized what Ilona had written as a title! JanF

  3. I have seen the slats from window blinds used in gardens, with names of plants written on them, especially useful when planting seeds.

  4. Some vitamins are fat soluble so eating oils and fats with salad is a good idea. 'Mayonnaise is a stable emulsion of oil, egg yolk, and either vinegar or lemon juice'

  5. The string from the blinds is really strong so once unpicked, you can use that for anything. We painted the slats from an old blind we inherited from previous houseowners, used cheapo plastic paint from £shop, cut the slats different lengths, then painted them in a couple of different but complementary colours, punch holds in the top, used twisted wire to hook them onto, and had ourselves a lovely piece of garden sculpture, like a windchime but much quieter! Lasted a few years before the plastic got brittle and cracked. Friend had the rest of the slats off us and used them as the weighty bits (sorry, don't know what proper name is for them!) when she was making roller blinds for her new house.

  6. I do plonk homemade dressings on my salads - I do quite a lot of different ones. The best way is to put on your salad JUST before eating. I wouldn't use a bought one though. A little bit of olive oil is good for my wrinkled old skin. Natalie

  7. Hello Ilona, a bit of olive oil is delicious on a salad that is all I use with a bit of salt and pepper. From someone from the Netherlands.

  8. The Skin So Soft body oil is brilliant at repelling midges. Apparently it is used by the military for that purpose. I have some but sadly can't cope with the smell as it is really strong.

  9. Sometimes an old bottle of lotion can start harboring bacteria. If it is more than 2 years old I would toss it.
