Nov 1st, Walking Group check in

Hello, Guten Morgen, up bright and early to get this page published so all our enthusiastic walkers can start logging their miles. We are ten months into the challenge, another two months left to go for this year. I hope you are all staying positive. If you have dropped by the wayside a bit you can easily pick yourself up and keep on keeping on.

I know the weather is a bit chaotic at the moment, and we don't always feel like leaving the comfort of our warm homes, but I can guarantee that once you step outside and keep up a brisk pace, you will start to feel warm inside your body.

It's movement that keeps you warm, and it's a lot cheaper than sitting in front of the fire watching TV, huddled under a blanket.

My total miles so far this year is 1015. No, I am not stopping just because I have reached the 1000, this is ongoing for me. It's a long term commitment to look after myself. I have probably done more actually, but I only count the times I leave the house with the sole intention of walking for exercise. Ambling around with a slow dog and pottering round town is not exercise. My walking is brisk on the flat, with a bit of huffing and puffing when I go out and find some hills.

So, howzit going for you? No doubt we are all going to eat a bit more naughty food, and enjoy a tipple, in the run up to Christmas, so now is the time to keep a check on the weight. If you find you are craving calories, go for a walk instead to take your mind off cream cakes and wine.

I'll be checking here for the rest of the day, so let's see your comments come piling in with your miles. Don't let me down, but more importantly, don't let you down.

Catch ya later, Toodle pip

  4. I have done 92 miles this month.I was on holiday for exactly 3 weeks and all I did really was walk and then lie down.My stamina isn't great but I really was determined to make an extra effort. If a friend was going for a walk after I was back I just went again.Up and down the hills. For me this months total is an improvement.(I think I did quite a lot more, but forgot my pedometre sometimes)I do get wobbly legs but I'm seeing the doctor about that. Thanks for your encouragement Ilona-I thought of you when I was walking x

  13. Hi Ilona and everyone, I've done 57 this month. As usual I'm bottom of the class but I've made a decision about how much time I can allocate to it rather than stressing out about not being a high achiever. I enjoy being part of the group and congratulate everyone on your massive mileages.

    1. A good idea to work out how much time you can give it. 57 is a good monthly figure, it equates to about 12 hours of walking, so you are doing well.

    2. Thanks for your kind words Ilona, you are very inspiring, I was up early and out walking this morning and yesterday so am off to a good start for November.

  14. Oct 112 miles, so total now 1213 to date. This includes everything though as measured by Fitbit, even moving round the house. Maybe not doing as well as I thought?

    1. Hi. Fitbits are a good motivator to keep moving, they are a good benchmark to work from to encourage activity. You cannot compare your activities to someone who walks purely for exercise. Moving around the house does not usually induce sweating and increased heart beat rate, unless it is something strenuous. However, do not be despondent, you are making an effort to keep moving, and if you feel better for it that's the main thing.

  19. Not much for me. 50 miles for October. I had an operation and so felt bad. Then I got an infection through the antibiotics the hospital gave me. My Mum had an accident - went into hospital with a broken femur - had an op - but fell out of a chair when unattended in hospital and died a week later last Saturday afternoon. Best wishes to all walkers here. Natalie

  22. Congratulations, Ilona, on reaching your 1000 mile goal early! I am still plugging along, though have not been able to increase the miles as hoped. I'll get there eventually! Since I haven't checked in for a while, I have three months to report. In August I did 41.23 miles, in September 35.68 miles, in October 38.93 miles, for a total of 290.7 miles since March 5. I seem to be going backward on mileage, but in August, Sept. and Oct. most of my time is spent between my sink, canning kettle, and food dehydrator as I get ready for winter. By the end of the day I need to sit. I've realized that if I don't get my walk first thing in the morning at that time of year (rather than late afternoon, which I prefer), I won't get it at all. Lesson learned for next year!

  23. 133 for me Ilona-i prefer walking in the cooler weather and I've had a bit of a push on. Thanks so much for doing this!

  24. Greeting Ilona from rainy Spain. Checking in for my husband Wences with 170 miles this month He says not much walking done this month due to being away visiting relatives which breaks ones routine a bit. He has a total of 2112 miles this year so far and is pleased. Cheering everyone on for the next month.

  25. Sorry I was late to check in this month. With 95km in September, I have a total of 943km so far.
Congratulations to you Ilona! A Great Motivator!
So sorry for your loss Natalie!

  26. Hello Ilona and everyone. This is only my second checkin for the year, as I was a late starter (and am late to check in again...). But I really enjoyed the motivation to keep walking. I did 201km/124.9miles in October which gives me a total of 414.33km for Sept/October. I'm very happy with this. My 4 month goal was only 535.9km, so all going well I should get that this month. 27. Hi Ilona, sorry for the late update, for some reason, I couldn't update, it said there was an error.
My total mileage, up to the end of October is 938 miles, so well on my way to reaching the target.
