Five a day, nah, more like ten a day.

I've eaten well today. Started with porridge and soft fruit, frozen cherries, blueberries, and raspberries, and a banana.
Lunch was two slices of seeded bread, toasted and spread with butter, and cream cheese with garlic. On top an avocado and cucumber, underneath iceberg lettuce. It was fabulous.
Dinner tonight was, steamed vegetables, potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, Brussels sprouts, and spinach. Served with a cheese and onion crispy bake, from Aldi. With a dollop of mayo. It was chuffin great.

Ooops, I made too much veg, there's some left for tomorrows lunch. This is why I don't eat out, can't get meals like this at a reasonable price. You can't beat food from your own kitchen. Toodle pip.  ilona

  1. mmm nice. You are right about eating in your own kitchen. At least you know how the food has been handled. Cheaper is a bonus.

    1. If I eat out I want to inspect their kitchens. Ha ha.

  2. Yummm your lunch looks like a brother to mine, bed of Cos lettuce, toasted homemade sourdough, half an Avacado, drizzle of lemon juice, sprinkle of spring onion, handful of halved cherry tomatoes. ..topped of with a runny fried egg.
    Our food is our fuel.

  3. I like your meals today. If I wanted a variety of veg like you have it would cost me an arm and a leg. No such thing as markdowns except at some places. When it is marked down it is seldom fit for consumption.

    1. I find that frozen veg is a good buy, and have some in the freezer for when I run out of fresh. The sprouts were frozen, not as tasty as fresh but a good alternative.

  4. It all looks delicious. Canada's Food Guide recommends 7 to 10 servings of fruit & veg a day (and we don't get to count some of the things that you do - like baked beans (those are carbs to us) - and most days I do manage to hit at least 7. And yes, I do feel a lot better when I get my full quota - your mom knew best when she said "eat your greens"! :-)

    1. My Mum said, eat everything on your plate. Some of the cheap meals she dished up were horrible, because we didn't have the variety we have now. Just thinking about tripe makes me want to vomit.

  5. I am veggie too. I eat really well for the fraction of the cost of eating out. It has to be really special or a visit with a friend for me to eat out.

    1. I find that if you eat out with other people the conversations interrupt the enjoyment of the food, and it isn't digested properly. I like to savour every mouthful so it takes me longer to eat a meal.

    2. Which is a good thing, Illona. Eating on the go or eating too fast is not good for your digestion. x

  7. Did you know the recomendation is really 8 to 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, but the powers that be, decided that people would be put off by that amount and wouldn't even try. So they decided that the recomended amount would be 5 a day. Dumbing down for the masses again

    1. Typical. Tell people what you think they want to hear. The truth is very often unpalatable.

    2. There's a very interesting new book out called Ten A Day by James Wong, the ethnobotanist which discusses the policies and the evidence behind them (plus lots of tips and recipes to increase the number of portions you eat). I borrowed it from the library.

    1. Thank you for visiting. Some people don't seem to want to improve their lifestyle, so I suppose we just have to let them get on with it. I don't get it all right all of the time, but I do the best for myself.

  9. Im another fan of meals like yours. An assortment of veg,a bit of mayo or egg...Ive started making cheese omelette under my veg for a change.I love it in a wrap aswell. The price in supermarkets for these are sometimes getting on for £2..for one wrap cut in half!.Last Saturday my Mam wanted to nip in Asda and while I was there,I manged to get a petit pois..that sounds posh doesnt it,lol..courgette and ricotta quiche reduced down to 53p.I baked it intending to cut it half and freeze. But it was so nice that I ate the lot in 2 meals!.When I was a kid,I cant remember the assortment of veg that we get these days..just carrots, peas and turnip..my Dad used to call turnip Shonock,,I dont know if that was a Tutbury saying?.My Mam only done turnip in stews, never on a dinner.Even now she looks at me strangely if I am cooking it to eat on a dinner plate, lol. My kitchen scrap spring greens, that I grew from the root ends are growing quite big now so Im looking forward to having some free veg in the next month. The onions and peppers are coming on well also...Well,its a very rainy day here in Leicester. The cats are all huddled up asleep and the garden is looking very happy!!xx

  10. What a lovely array of fruit and vegetables - and little 'messing about' so that you can actually taste the flavours. I certainly would have eaten your menu. I too have a 'basket steamer' for vegetables but tend to microwave them in a tablespoon of water for 3 minutes (I hate soggy veg), but that's just my preference of cooking. I called in to my nearest shop yesterday, they were attempting to sell peaches for 60p each. I walked away.

  11. I am always impressed with the amount / variety of veg you "get in". And all on a budget, and looking tasty. I often think the schools, starting at the earliest grade, and right up to grad and post secondary should have you/someone like you come in and talk on this. I know back then I myself would greatly have benefited.

Am enclosing a link for you to look at. Just thought you might like a gander at this craft. I cannot decide if the pattern was done with paint/beads/embroidery or? and it does not say. But it is pretty, and thought it might interest you.

  12. Aldi are also doing some nice vegan burgers too. One is sweet potato based and the other is beetroot. So easy if you have a food processor. I always try to copy the idea. Your diet is just like mine during the week but at the weekend, I do love cheesy chips when the other half has a burger!
Keep going with the video history of your life on the road. They are the best thing that I've seen for a long time.
I did comment once before about Roadline in Leicester but we didn't overlap.

  13. I am all plant based too and just finished my veggie sandwich on sprouted bread, delicious! Maybe I'll make the time to make my own veggie burgers this weekend.
