My Trucking Life. Part 3.

Here we go, another little trucking chat. Not so little this time, 24 minutes long. It's a bit too long really, I must try and stop waffling and make them a bit shorter. Still lots more to come.

Raining again today. Oh how miserable it is outside. I haven't been walking as much as I should do, never mind, there will be a chance to catch up later. Toodle pip.  ilona

  5. Right..I will try to comment again today because my lap top or internet was playing up yesterday and after I had done my comment it vanished without trace!!...Well another fascinating video of your life!I really am enjoying these Ilona. It does make me wonder if attitudes are any different these days concerning lady truckers. 3 of my Hubbys mates are lorry drivers so I am going to ask them and see what they say!!...I will let you know!.I so admire your determination to do what you want in life. Some people seem to give up so easy.xx

Like many others, I had also been wondering about the difficulty you faced when needing a loo, and your solution, underneath the lorry, came as a surprise. Another challenge you must have faced, was sitting in seemingly never ending traffic jams. Did you find it terribly stressful, worrying that deadlines would be missed? Did you have coping strategies for this? Also, did you ever need escort cars for some of the largest loads, and how did you get on with the other driver in those circumstances? As you can see from all my questions, I am finding your memoirs fascinating and I am full of admiration for your determination. Thank you, Ilona.

    1. Whoa, slow down. I had deadlines to meet, delivery times were arranged so I tried my best to get there on time. Traffic jams were an annoyance. I did get stressed at first, but later I decided I couldn't do anything about the delays, so no point in getting stressed. Just sit and wait and go with the flow. If I was late it was the transport managers fault for not giving me enough time. When cab phones came in I could ring the office and tell them I would be late.

There are more videos to come, so be patient.

  7. Hi again Ilona..Well I spoke to one of Hubbys mates who is a lorry driver and he said that yes, there had been 2 lady truckers at his place, although one had just left because her husband was very ill and needed full time care.He said they were just as good as any of the blokes there. He had got no problem helping them or any of the blokes who work there. He also said that any one who wouldnt give any person a hand...must be arsoles in their every day life,lol..This guy is nearly 50 and has been lorry driving for years,so he was very positive!!.xx
