First shopping trip to buy food.

Hoooray, I have done my first shopping in 13 days. The fridge was bare, so now it's restocked. I had run out of Mayze's cat food , now we can carry on for another 13 days.
The town was ghostly quiet, it felt very strange. I went this afternoon because I thought it would be less busy in Aldi. The bank was closed, they have cut their hours and finish at 2pm daily. Not a problem, nothing urgent, just a cheque to deposit for the refund from my road tax of the old car. It can wait.
I got all the cat food I needed from Home Bargains, thankfully they had the varieties I wanted. Small Sheba pouches for Heidi, and Whiskas pouches for Oscar. Mayze only eats cooked meats from the chiller cabinet so I got that from Aldi. They all eat dry Whiskas as well.
Aldi was quiet, only a few cars in the car park. I kept well away from people as much as I could, and didn't dawdle. Not a good idea to browse.
Some of the things I bought.
Bananas, grapes, frozen raspberries, yogurt Greek style, Eggs, Lentils, cheesy crackers, beetroot, iceberg lettuce, seeded bread, multigrain hoops, carrots, brocolli, potatoes, sliced ham, extra virgin olive oil, milk, cheese and onion quiche, cheese and onion rolls, pasta and sauce, egg custards, mayo, sugar, houmous, scones, and cheap white wine.  That will keep me going for a while.
The car is very lovely to drive, don't know when I will be able to go out again. Maybe another shopping trip in two weeks time.
That's me done for now. Don't forget, if you haven't checked in with your walking miles you can do it at any time.

    1. Yes, the colour was a bonus. I was lucky to find the car I wanted with the right spec. It was down south so they had to bring it up here to a local dealer.

    1. As I said below to Mrs LH, I won't be getting yellow stickers for a while. I won't be hanging around waiting for them.

I have a full cupboard of cat food, that will last a while.

I often top up a snack size meal with an egg, adds protein. The other day I did some macaroni cheese, out of a packet, and put an egg on top. You've just reminded me, I haven't had a banana sandwich for ages, that's breakfast sorted. A new seeded loaf and four bananas went in my trolley yesterday.

    2. PS. Not brand new, just the best I could find for the money I could afford. I wouldn't buy a new car. This one has 30,000 on the clock, one previous owner. Good enough for me.

  4. Love your new car - very nice.
Glad you got what you wanted in Aldi. In normal times I nip into Aldi quite a bit and have vowed to make it my regular shop in the future as I'm always pleased with the bill.

    1. We have a smaller Aldi near to town. I wondered if it might close when the new bigger store on the retail park opened. It is staying open so I shall continue to shop there. It is convenient. I will be missing out on the yellows stickers at Tesco but at this moment in time I prefer to shop in a more orderly fashion, and not hang around waiting for the reduced trolley to appear from the warehouse.

  5. I hit the grocery store yesterday for fresh fruit & veg, dairy and some frozen fruit & veg. Went in early during the seniors time - it was fully restocked and everyone obeyed the social distancing rules so I was in and out in no time. That will do me for the month of April as my pantry and fridge are full (only have a 3/4 apt. fridge with small freezer above) but since its only me I have plenty.
I do like your new car and love the colour!

    1. Thank you Margie. I didn't choose it for the colour, the car was exactly what I wanted, the colour was a bonus. I think you are doing the same as me, spin your fresh veggies out and mix them with some frozen. Eat what we already have and no rushing to the shops when we run out of something. I felt quite nervous in Aldi, didn't want to be there longer than I had to.

  6. A lovely car indeed! With hub caps like flowers. I shall expect to see photos of those hubcaps with some embroidery or weaving, or some other such crafting on them in the not to distant future, Ilona!

  7. Nice car Ilona, I am only going out when neccesary. I know you and I are avid yellow sticker shoppers, but all that for me has gone out the window now, when I have to go I get whats on the list and get out as quickly as possible. I have seen people on Instagram still showing off there regular yellow sticker hauls, they still seem to be going out every 5 mintues looking for bargains, it really cracks me up, they are crazy, life is more important than bargains at the moment.x

  8. Had our first trip to the shop yesterday also. Surprised myself how nervous I was. I only needed fresh fruit and a couple of salad items, which I washed as soon as we arrived home and also washed the shopping bags etc You had to apply hand sanitizer as you entered and everyone was gracious except I did see someone cough into their hand! A bit unnerving! Car looks great and also very practical

    1. I forgot to get some coffee from Home Bargains because I was thinking I must hurry up and get out and go back home. I felt I really shouldn't be there.

  10. I love your new car. I don't usually like blue cars, but that shade with that shape just looks 'right'.

It just feels strange going out shopping at the moment doesn't it, we were good to stay in for another two weeks but had to venture out when we needed a sympathy card buying and posting. We should be okay to stay at home now for a while.

  11. Hi Ilona. I go shopping in the dedicated NHS hours first thing. Very civilised and lovely as all the stock is fresh in and faced up. I'm lucky and proud to be an NHS worker.
