Zipppeeeeee

Hello. It's about time I did something with these zips, I've had them for a few years. I grabbed them when the Scunthorpe Scrapstore closed down. We were allowed to take what we wanted before the whole lot got shipped over to Hull. They are all either four or six inches long, I've been pondering what to do with them for ages. I did make some purses with them when I first got them, but got bored with that.
I've been playing with them, re arranging them, first thoughts were a contemporary art picture, maybe a bit Mondrian style. Blocks of colours. But that would have been too easy. So I thought about separating the two halves, and stitching them into a circle, could make some flowers.

I haven't got enough different colours, but found a solution to that, use felt tip pens to colour them. Seems to work alright. So, this is the first idea, it will need some more thought, but I am hopeful that it will turn into something quite good.

Fridge is empty so I'm going to do the Yellow Sticker dash tonight.

Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

    1. I've had a look, Cherie, thanks. My zips are not long enough to make brooches.

  2. Love your ideas Ilona!,You are so good with making things and Im sure that you will turn it into something fantastic!!...Good Luck on your yellow sticker dash tonight...i have given up on them at our local supermarkets. You have about 30 or more people, same ones most nights,Ive been told, that just push and shove everyone near them out the way and grab everything they can.I think i would get arrested if I joined in the scrum, lol.I feel sorry for the people who work there having to put the stuff out...They have even told people I know, that they feel as though they are in a dangerous situation and could they report it to the Customer Service desk. They said T..co,dont care as long as they get a few pence for what is left.Where you live, people must be alot nicer and more keen to share.Where i live,it is a nightmare! 4. A friend gave me a lovely heart-shaped brooch made out of different colored zippers. They are wrapped around each other will the zipper teeth facing up (or forward). They are sewn together on the back. I see that your zipper teeth are all the same color, but if coloring them doesn't work, it would probably be possible to fold up some of the tape to separate the rows of brass color. Whatever you decide to make, I'm sure it will be fun and creative. Can't wait to see!

    1. We do the same thing to the giant ones we get around September- chuck then outside with a " you don't know how lucky you are!" comment. I hate seeing them in the house and I hate to think that they have probably laid 400 eggs in our walls ready for next year. JanF

    2. Disclaimer...Readers comments may not be a reflection of my own opinion. I like spiders, they are welcome in my house. They are the good guys, they weave webs to catch flies.

    3. I love spiders and they can stay with e anytime; it is very sad that people put spiders out in the cold (or worse kill them) as house spiders will surly die in winter from the shock of the cold. I mean what has a poor spider ever done to you ??????? If sometimes a spider gets stuck in the sink or bath and can't get up the slippery mountain I carefully take them out and put them somewhere safe in the house away from my cats who love to chase and eat spiders. They have a right to live the same as every living thing and the spider haters must watch out or they might come back as one in their next life.

    4. I didn't realize that the spiders would die outside.I rescue them out of my sinl< and bath then put them outside. If they are running around or on the wall I leave them there .Even wasps and flies I won't swat but I didn't l<now they would die outside x

  7. Not artistic but...... You could put zip pockets on your shopping bags, inside or out. You could add several non- functioning zips on the outside of a plain bag to look just quirky. Looking now at my house/dossing about/gardening jeans which have a split in the thigh, I think a colourful zip would make a feature patch, (which could be unzipped if I had an itch on my leg. Ha ha! 2. What about a hat with a zip off snood and then a zip off scarf-or as little children have their mittens on strings-the gloves could be zipped on and of the cuff.I couldn't find a pair of gloves today and a lady told me she sometimes uses socl<s.I'm going to put thumb holes in mine now x

  9. my first thought was to use them for something that can be used and sold for the charity, seems a shame not to. like the idea of an inner zip to your bags to give an extra pocket maybe. Other than that cant think. maybe a lampshade covering if you open the zips the light shines through :) maybe take them to your craft class to see if they have any ideas too.

    1. I quite like the lampshade idea Julie. Another idea would be to glue them round a glass jar in multi colours and make a quirky vase. Jean

  10. For the large bags you make, you could put a little zippered pocket in them. I like a pocket in my bag.
