That's not food!!!

Hello. Can anyone tell me what this is? No, it's not a cows stomach, not the top of a fermenting barrel of beer, and not a slice from a human brain. It is in fact a pizza, believe it or not. Or part of a pizza, I have cut a little bit off the edge and eaten it. But where is the topping, I hear you say.
Here is the topping, it's a three cheese topping, and it can be removed from the base like it's a piece of plastic. In fact it is the consistency of melted plastic, a tasteless piece of melted plastic.

About twice a year I fancy a pizza, I bought this from Aldi for about £1. I should have known better. Generously topped, I don't think so. Industry awards winner 2016, how the hell did it get that. Deep pan base, it certainly is. It's a soft dough base which is like chewing an old dish cloth.

I tried to eat some of it, managed the plastic cheese and wished I hadn't, God knows what it's doing to my insides. What's left of the base, which is most of it, will get thrown out for the birds. It says on the back of the box that if I am not satisfied I can take it back to the shop. I can't be bothered, let the birds have it. All I will do is pass on this message, don't buy this it's (trying to be ladylike here but failing), shite.

This was the scene this morning. It has been snowing on and off all day. The road to town was ok, the gritters have been out. I had a bit of business to do at the bank, and I picked up some cat food while I was there. I seem to be buying an awful lot of cat food just lately.

No sign of Garcia today, he must have stayed indoors.

Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

  1. cant eat ready made pizza since I had a garlic and coriander naan bread to use up and made a 50/50 tomato sauce and tomato puree with a smidge of garlic puree as a base with good old grated cheddar on top, leftover sliced mushrooms from the freezer and it was the tastiest pizza I have ever had. Quick cheap and yummy - Tam

  2. My cats are eating alot more food aswell Ilona.I googled it and it said that they always eat more when its cold outside. The snow here has been on n off all day and none of it seems to be laying.Although the wind is bitter.I hung some towels out on the line and within about half hour they were stiff as a board!..I see what you mean about your pizza!,It looks awful. The only thing i will say is if im having a pizza, which is very rare,i always go for the thin base ones.As they are not quite as revolting as the deep pan ones, lol.Still, the birds will enjoy it so it isnt wasted!Hope that Garcia is ok,Debi,xx

  3. The actual pizza looks different to the picture on the box. I suppose they would not sell any if they showed the real thing. Sharon

  4. We had a similar experience and now make our own from scratch. Its quick, easy and tasty, and above all, frugal. Good way to use up left overs too.

  5. Don't give it to the birds! They won't be able to take off for a week; that stuff will weigh them down.

  6. Goodness, that was quite a mystery!

  7. On a more serious note, I complained to Asda by email about a product recently and told them that it would cost more for me to return the item than the refund as we live half an hour from the nearest store. They sent vouchers.

  8. It looks pretty yuck and the old saying you get what you pay for springs to mind. Aldi do a vegetarian stone baked Pizza, around £3.50. Its big enough cut into six and freeze four eat two but probably too big for you Ilona. It actually is pretty good and you can see what's inside the box but it doesn't beat a homemade one anyday. It's Tuesday 9pm Mid Norfolk, snowing heavily here....Rae x

  9. That does not look good! If I fancy a pizza I either use a bit of dough that I buy at the supermarket all made up or use some Naan bread as the base. Then I load it up with whatever bits and pieces of cheese, veggies and bits of meat I might have on hand - always tastes great and uses up leftovers.
    Stay warm!

  10. "Boughten" pizza is always disappointing. I make my own (the pizza base is easy to make) and then add my own toppings. No plastic cheese! Tam's idea using up the garlic and coriander naan bread as a base sounds great.

  11. My last shop bought pizza looked very similar, so we topped it with chopped olives, red pepper and basil and it still tasted shite. It also gave me chronic indigestion. Never again.

  12. Yours looks very overcooked. I have occasionally bought those pizzas in the past and used them as a base for all manner of toppings. We don't mind them at all. I do though, prefer to buy naan breads and use them to create a pizza

  13. When we fancy a pizza, we buy Aldi's Mediterranean Vegetable one. It's about 89p and thin crust. It is covered in veggies on the top and does look like the picture on the box. My husband adds a few more bits to the top, and sometimes I add a few sliced mushrooms to mine, then we pop it under the grill. Perhaps next time you are in Aldi you might notice it, and if you do give it a try, you might find it more to your taste.

  18. I’m not a fan of cardboard pizza, either. I think it’s better to buy the base and add your own toppings. Or, use tortilla shells as a base.
The snow makes a pretty picture. Here, I am ready for Spring!

  20. Honestly, I don't know how those frozen pizza makers haven't gone broke! I'm not a fussy eater, but I haven't attempted to eat one of those in I have no idea how long. They're horrid and clearly haven't improved. The snowy scene looks just beautiful! (It's too hot in Australia lol)

    1. I've never liked it very much, thought I would give this a try, now I will probably never eat pizza again. I prefer a wholemeal bread sandwich stuffed full of good food.

  22. How funny, brightened up a grim morning. Also please do remember the birds, they do need food this weather. I remember being in Scotland where they put the pizza in the deep fryer!
Seems I am stuck in the next few days, blizzards on the way.

  23. The pizza looks atrocious but i expect the birds were grateful for it so not wasted. I shop at Aldi but don't buy pizzas - very very occasionally I will make one. A slight aside, for the meat eaters, I've always looked horrified at the cheap mince sold, sometimes about £1 a bag - no thanks, what on earth is in it for it to be sold so low. On-off snow showers here in the Midlands. Amanda

  26. Hello. Please tell me about the plants in the containers? How do you keep them green? What plant food do you use? Have they survived past winters? I am asking because we have some shrubs in containers and want to keep them happy :)
    Thanks muchly.

    1. Hello. I don't use any plant food at all. I plant them in shop bought compost. Most of them are evergreens, they don't die in the winter. Some of them I have had years, they started small and I re-pot when they grow a bit. I have a few plants in the beds which die off in winter, then come back in the spring. I prefer my garden to look full att the year round, so I plant plastic flowers in among the real ones to fill the gaps.

  27. I rarely by pizzas too for the same reason but if I fancy pizza I use an uncut pitta bread or even white toast as the base
