An experiment.

Hello. Right, Debi has got it, she can now put her name at the top of her comments, which helps me to sort out the Anonymous genuine comments from the Anonymous spam comments. Here are the instructions on how to do it, let's see how many Names we can get in boxes.

The Comment form at the bottom of every post. Write your comment in the Enter your comment ... box as normal. Next to my picture it says Comment as, and there is a little downward pointing arrow. Click on that arrow.

It will open a drop down box with a menu, with eight options. Click on Name/URL to highlight it.

This box will open. Put your name, real or user name, in the top box. Don't put anything in the URL box, leave it empty. Click on Continue.

Proof read before you click Publish so you don't need to use Preview. Next click Publish and it is sent to my Awaiting Moderation box. It will appear when I have read it. Your name (not Joe Bloggs), will then appear on the top of your comment in bold black type.

Let's have a practice day. Send a comment using this method, and we'll see how many Anonymous's we can get rid of. Trudy, and Sharon, and Jean, and Debi, are already doing it, so thank you.

It's late so I'll say Goodnight. I'm still coughing and sniffing but not quite so bad. I did a two mile walk around the village, that was enough. By the time I had stopped to talk to several people I was ready for a sit down. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.
Toodle pip.

    1. YAY, you're the first Mary, you got it. If you don't want to use your surname perhaps Mary B would be better, just in case there is another Mary.

  25. Well done everyone. When I checked 'Comments pending' this morning it was easy to look down the right hand side of my screen and immediately spot the Anonymous spam, and dump it. Eight spam came through out of 30+ comments.

Doesn't that look much better now everyone has a name at the top of their comment. It doesn't have to be your own name, make one up, but please use the same one every time.

Those readers who already have their name in a blue link don't need to follow the above instructions. You can if you like, but it's not necessary.

  27. I am pleased you are back safely, I must say that when you were talking about getting a cold I thought to myself 'that's not like Ilona', I wonder what is wrong, she's never ill. I know you mentioned about the chap on the train opposite who was sneezing and coughing but let me just say that someone told me supermarket trolley handles are full of germs so I have a small bottle of hand disinfectant in the car and wipe my hands thoroughly after putting the trolley back.

  31. First of all I would like to say awesome
blog! I had a quick question in which I'd like to ask if you
do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing.
I've had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there.

I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted just
trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?

    Thank you!

NOT STRICTLY SPAM BECAUSE THERE ARE NO LINKS IN IT, BUT ALWAYS THE SAME WORDS, COMPUTER GENERATED. BY FILTERING IT OUT I CAN DUMP IT MORE QUICKLY. MESSAGE TO ANON......BOG OFF.

    1. Hi Sue. Yes Sue. A name indicates there is a real person putting their thoughts down in a comment. Regular readers can then recognize each other and it makes it more friendly.

Almost stopped sneezing and coughing now. I'm on the mend. Thanks.

I have just tried your instructions - fingers crossed it worked.

Pleased your cold (sounded more like flu to me) is on it's way out.

One question - will these instructions work with every blogger? I do not understand all this URL / Google account etc., etc., Maybe I need to find a young man to guide me! ;-)

    Best wishes

    1. It depends what they have their settings on. If they accept Anonymous, ie everyone, then yes it should work. Click on the down arrow and see what options come up in the menu in the drop down box. If they only accept Google accounts or one of the others, then you might not see the Name/URL option.

    2. Some blogs won't let me through even if they have an anonymous or URL space. I only have my phone, no computer. They let me write and choose, but then when I press the word publish, they try, but then ask me to prove I'm not a robot. There is no jumbled word, but it tells me to update my CAPCHA but according to my phone, I have.

  50. Made a vat of veg soup for FREE today. Visited local marketplace when traders had gone home and found the outer leaves of cabbages that they always remove, a few half-carrots, two slightly-bruised onions they probably couldn't sell in a box next to the waste bin. Took it home, washed it, added celery from fridge, stock from pantry, dry parsley and hey presto - enough veg soup to last a week (I froze most of it). So chuffed.
