A very large deposit

It's been a busy but enjoyable day today. Fabulous weather, just right for a dog walk. Paul asked me if I could take his boys out, who could say no to these handsome chaps. Ollie on the left, and Alfie on the right. Come on boys, let's have a bimble around the village.
Big dogs mean big poo's. Tesco Value nappy bags are no good for these fellas, plastic carrier bags needed for their molehill size deposits, ha ha.
Off we go boys, and no jumping in that mucky ditchwater. I don't want to have to give you a wash when we get back.
It is Paul's 50th birthday today. Happy Birthday Paul, so when I got home I made him a card. Print the above photo and attach it onto some glittery paper with sellotape, then sew it onto a blank card. The card by the way is pale green, it doesn't show up very well on this photo. Then find two more bits from my stash of old cards, cut them out and sew them on with the same coloured embroidery thread. The '50 today' is fourteen years old, I got lots of cards for my 50th because I had a party. Still got them. Inside I have put a white paper insert to write the message on, and cover the stitching. Paul will get a surprise when he looks in the wine bottle bag. He won't find a bottle of plonk, but a bottle size courgette, ha ha. Well I've got to get rid of them somehow and I know he likes cooking.
Now let's measure this up for size, am I nearly there yet. Erm.....no. Still a lot more to do. Keep plodding on. I reckon at least another six rows to do, it's going to take chuffin ages. Never mind, something to do in the cold winter days and long winter nights.
Right, it's time for my bath, got to go. I'm getting my toothy pegs looked at tomorrow, so I want to smell sweet when I'm stretched out in the dentists chair. Must be awful for her if she gets a whiffy patient. I've got to see a new dentist because my regular one is on maternity leave. How chuffin inconsiderate of her to have a baby just when it's time for my checkup. I'll let you know what the new lady is like.
Have a nice evening. Toodle pip.

  1. Your card is lovely, and so thoughtful of you to make one for Paul. I do card making too and love being able to give people a personalised card. Your patchwork is also coming along beautifully. I'm currently making a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt using handsewn hexagons. I'm hoping to turn it in to a quilt to go over the back of a sofa so we can then wrap it around us in the winter instead of turning the heating up. I really enjoy hand sewing, but will probably do the quilting and binding by machine.

  5. I have to shovel many kinds of manure but lucky me I don't have to mess with dog as she goes way way away in the field for some reason. We have an old cat and a litter box which is another story.

  6. great card! those dogs are so cute. I like what you are doing with your quilt, how you changed to a border of small squares, very nice.
I just heard a funny expression, from a book written by an American, he called the dentist a "gum gardener!".

  8. Really loving the patchwork. Are you enjoying doing it? I love doing handstitched patwork (no choice really, have no machine at present!) Have spend most of the last year crocheting, but am increasingly feeling the need to patch. Just as well we are back in Hampshire now, close to my ever-increasing stash of fabrics. Good luck at the dentist - never my favourite place although my dentist herself is lovely.

    1. Hi Alison. It's nice to pick up a bit of hand sewing now and again, but I am not a fan of big projects that take ages to complete. Maybe I'll get more done in the winter when it's too miserable to go out.

  11. Beautiful quilt and a thoughtful card. Best birthday wishes to Paul. A reader advised that she too had trouble commenting on my blog when using her reader so she tried going to the home page by typing in e-lifeinprogress.blogspot.com and was able to comment that way. I am not sure why this is a problem sometimes and I don't seem to get much help from Blogger. Cheers and good luck at the dentist.

  12. Lovely quilt Ilona and lovely card and thoughts - but no more than I would expect from such a lovely person :)

Have just taken in a sort-of-rescue new cat - oh what fun we are having here getting the existing crew to be nice to the new girl!

  13. My dentist too, has become pregnant in a most inconsiderate fashion. I said, what's been going on here, and she said she'd eaten a few cakes. Well, to be honest, she'd had a few pies as well! Mr O has brought his appointment forward so that he can see the lovely Rachel before she leaves. She promises faithfully that she will be back for the check up after next. Dentists have improved considerably over the last few years, and I am not a bit biased having a lovely son-in-law who is the most unsympathetic dentist you will ever meet. Gum side manner needs improvement! But then he does work in an area of extreme deprivation. His butcher thinks he is a saint.

  16. Nice pictures of the dogs. How thoughtful to make a card of their picture for your friend, That's one card that will be a keeper.

Do like your quilt Ilona. I know what you mean about taking on big projects but just pace yourself and before you know it you will soon get to the size you are happy with. Its coming on really well so far.

  17. Those boys pulled at my heartstrings. Max, my best friend ever was a black lab and I miss him still. We too have been adopted by a stray cat. She is soooo thin - all skin and bones! After two weeks of feeding her twice a day she has a beautiful shiny coat. Our king of the castle resident cat tolerates her but Mr R does NOT want another cat. She runs to our secret spot when she sees food coming and sometimes clouts me if I don't set it down quickly enough! Love the quilt Ilona -
and the clever thoughtful birthday card.

  19. So nice you took them for a walk. I pop mine into the car - go to the hood and upon 3 vacant lots I run them, they love it (high energy dogs).

  20. Gorgeous card AND quilt, if you get it a bit bigger it should start to keep you very cosy as you sew each block of new additions on.

I almost didn't dare click on to read todays when I saw the title on my sidebar :-)
