A bimble round Woodstock

A few more holiday pics. After I had finished my free tour of Blenheim Palace, I left the grounds via the Woodstock Gate, also known as Triumphal Arch. The small town has royal associations going back to Saxon times. Henry 1 built a royal lodge here, and Henry 11 enlarged it to creat a manor house cum palace, which was badly damaged by the Roundhead attacks in 1646. The ruins were eventually swept away by the Duke of Marlborough when construction started on Blenheim Palace.

In the centre of Woodstock is the Town Hall.

Everywhere is decorated with flowers, with lots of pubs, restaurants and hotels to choose from.

Although the creeping ivy looks very attractive, I'm not sure it is good for the brickwork.

Ah look, my shop, ha ha.

Antique shops are also popular here.

A nice place to sit for a while.

I had a quick look round the Oxfordshire Museum, but it was far too hot in there to stay longer than a few minutes. I went on my way back along the A44 main road and took a right turn back into Bladon and walked down the A4095 back to my car where I had left it at the B & B at Burleigh Farm. I was pleased with my day out, a lot to see, and lots of walking.

  7. Hi Anon. Your previous comment was deleted. I can spot the difference between a genuine comment from a follower, and a spammer who comments soley to promote their own blog/website. Goodbye. Ilona
