What can you make with six spoons?

Hello. It's thanks to Kelly from Oregon for sending me a link to a web site, which gave me the idea for this garden decoration. Thrifty Rebel Vintage makes all kinds of house and garden decorations out of unwanted or cheap stuff. I had a look and found that Tuula bends spoons to make flowers, so I had a go and made my own version.
I found a washer in my bit box in the shed and bent the spoon handles backwards and slotted them through the centre of the washer. Six spoons were the perfect fit.
To secure them I wrapped the pink wire around to join them up so they wouldn't move about and slide around. I have a hot glue gun that has been hidden in a drawer for ages, time to get it out.

I have three old metal stalks from solar lights which no longer work, I kept them in case they come in useful for something. They are perfect for this, slot one of the spoon handles into the top, and stick the plastic pointy bit into the garden, or a plant pot.

To cover up the washer I added a large metallic button, fastening it at the back with wire. And stuck some coloured sequins on with the glue gun, trying not to get the hot sticky stuff all over the place. A pair of tweezers did the job very well, saved getting my fingers burnt. The glue sets very quickly so you have to be careful when positioning things. I took some pictures indoors to try and lessen the dazzle from the spoons.

A blob of hot glue on the back.

I'm dead chuffed with this. Think I'll give it a try with forks.

Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

You ought to get a book published of 'Ilona Makes'. It would be a best-seller I'm sure.

    1. Hello Joyce. I guess you haven't been around for a while, we no longer use the 'Anonymous' option for sending comments. Can you please read the note above, and on the sidebar, and below the comment box. Please click on 'Comment as', and choose the option 'Name', and put your name in the box. 13. Very pretty Ilona, most effective.
Curious now, you have an anonymous comment which says "removed by a blog administrator". Does this mean that you removed it because it slipped through, or does it mean that a power above did it because they didn't approve, or did the writer change their mind and somehow remove it? I've seen them on here and possibly on others before, and I'm just curious to learn what it means.

    1. Hi Jean. I removed it, I am the Blog Administrator. If you read the comment below it, and my reply, that will explain why I did it. Joyce posted as Anonymous, even though she put her name in the text. She didn't put Joyce in the box, like you have put Jean in the box.

It helps me to sort out the rubbish spam. I am getting around 40 to 50 a day. If I spot it quickly I can zap it quickly.

If a writer removes their own comment it would say 'Removed by author'.

    2. As a matter of curiosity Ilona, how can a comment be removed by the author once publish has been clicked?

      Delete
    3. Underneath each comment is the word 'Reply' so people can reply to each other. Under your own comment should be the word 'Delete', meaning you can delete your own comment if later you have changed your mind.

I have got Reply and Delete under every comment, so I can delete any I don't like, but that doesn't happen very often because I don't publish any I don't like. Also, I can delete the text but leave a footprint, as I have with Joyce's comment, or I can delete and remove forever leaving no trace behind.

  20. Looks lovely! I love seeing all the stuff you create. Just a thought with this and the fork bending - do you wear safety specs? I have taken to doing this after a needle broke suddenly on the sewing machine and almost hit my eye. You can get some good ones in Screwfix with decent quality lenses.

    1. Hi. I have safety goggles which I wear for more dangerous jobs. My glasses do a good job of protecting my eyes in most circumstances.

  24. Love your spoon decoration! I can see you making a lot of those for your open garden tours. Really cute and very clever. They remind me of whirlygigs or what we call "pinwheels" here in the states.
