The right place at the right time

Look at this little lot then, a fantastic haul from tes&co, and that's not all of it. Missing off the pic is salmon fillets and cheese and onion slices. When I saw the low prices I rang Sue to ask if she wanted anything, so I got extra for her as well. My bill came to £12.04. There was milk and cream which was the only two items that weren't reduced, so less the £2.40 for Sue's shopping, mine cost me £9.64.

Again I was hassling the ladies with the price ticket machines, hovering, watching, and getting ready to grab as soon as the sticker had gone on. I couldn't believe my luck, it helps being in the right place at the right time. I finally came out the shop at 6.30pm, it only took an hour and a half.

I was craving fresh veg and I have got plenty here. In my stash I have, 8 green peppers at 20p each, lettuce, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, potatoes, broccoli, oatcakes, sliced wholemeal bread, and grainy bread rolls. Fantastic. That's enough veg to last for well over a week, and the bread in the freezer will last for several weeks.

From the discount stores I got Coffee Mate, Iceland are doing a 1kg pack for £3, and So Good Soya milk, 39p in Home Bargains, and well in date. Normally this is £1.27 in the supermarkets. Buy it cheap while it is there.

So the money saving continues, but far from it being a bore to watch every penny, it's fun. I must add some more stores to my list to check out prices. I don't normally go in Iceland, or that other frozen food shop, Farm something or other, I must cast my net further afield to bag the best bargains.

  1. That's a pretty good haul you got there!

I've been disappointed lately as some supermarkets seem to have stopped reducing as far as they used to... even in the last hour. Very annoying!

  3. Hi there, I have been following your blog for some time now, I like the humour and thrifty tips.
Have you tried Asda for bakery goods. Last week I bought some lovely walnut bread for 1p a loaf. Not bad eh. Like you I have always been careful with money and I love a bargain. Sally

  6. I sure wish the stores here in the US would mark things down like that. Best I ever found is Thursday nights around 10pm at Kroger they mark down the containers of mixed fruit from $3 to 99 cents. It works for me as a single person, I get a variety with no mess or bother in a size I can eat through in 2-3 days.

  7. Tesco in my shopping street have had a re-furbishment and the reduced item shelf has been removed since Monday. I complaint but had no come back. Seems the new store does not value my custom anymore. I`ll check tomorrow if they have re-instated the cheapo shelfs. I sure miss the odd bargains.

  11. That was some haul of bargains you got yourself, Ilona, good for you. Is it a 24hr Tesco that you go to? We have 3 Tesco stores here and I go to the Tesco Metro within walking distance, others are a bus trip away. Do get some bargains, doughnuts the other day for 24p, nice with a cup of tea. Yum!! Did get some cereal for 75p and also started to get Tesco Value muesli, my boys like it and it's only 67p a bag, not so much sugar as some other bags of muesli. You're an inspiration and I love reading your posts and seeing what bargains you've managed to get your hands on. Keep up the good work. Christy. x
