Severn Trent Water, the new savings bank

It's easily done, you get your bills, you pay them. You expect companies to know what they are doing and to charge you the correct amount. I don't do direct debit on utilities, I get a quarterly or half yearly bill, if it looks right I pay it into my bank with a cheque. Simple.

But when I took the time to read my water bills, we get two, it didn't look right. Why was some of the amount I was paying to Anglian Water, passed over to Severn Trent Water for the sewerage part of the bill, when I was already paying Severn Trent in a seperate bill? Didn't make sense. So I rang them up.

Lo and behold, Anglian Water should have told Severn Trent when I had a water meter fitted, but they didn't. Both bills should have been adjusted, but they weren't. And that was in 2007.

Now it is sorted, I really must keep on top of these things and be more vigilant. My Severn Trent is now paid up for this year, and I have a refund, which will pay for my holiday. If you don't want to enlarge it, the amount is £493.70.

  7. Well done! You do have to keep an eye on things, computer error/human errors still cost us all a lot of money.

  9. We have self-checkout lanes now at our supermarket - I always use them as I can take my time and make sure that there are no errors.
    Nice windfall !

  10. WE just found that our house had been double covered for three years. Now we have no insurance payments for two more years!
We also found out that our replacement heater had a rebate from the power company. We put in the heater in 2006, but still got the $800.!
Sometimes, when we are too busy, we lose track of keeping track!
    Congrats on your finds!
