Good morning. This popped up on my Burton on Trent memories page. I remember the Bowling Alley well. When I first tried tenpin bowling I found I was pretty good at it. I was recruited onto the Junior Bowling League. From then on I went every week. It felt good to be mixing with people of all ages, and I was pleased that they thought I was good enough. My first taste of proper grown up life.
Top Rank Bowling alley, Bargates. Circa 1968.
I did a bus to town and a walk back yesterday, and have managed to lose the photographs. Thought I would take a short cut loading them, now they are gone. Oooops.
Sunny again today. I have things to do. Catch ya later. Toodle pip. ilona
I remember it well. The counter where you swapped your shoes, the sound of the place and the score cards. You might also remember the little book shop and of course the lovely Man Hong Chinese restaurant.
ReplyDeleteIt all disappeared years ago, and after remaining a space for many years, has now been built on. Oh the wonderful memories of Man Hong and the Bowling Alley.
Jean..
Hello Jean. I remember the bookshop on the corner. I might have gone in the Chinese restaurant just once. We couldn't afford to eat out. It was a nice little courtyard when the shops were occupied, with the bowling alley above. Then it became Adams the nightclub, where I worked behind the bar. I'm not sure what the new buildings are going to be. Haven't been for a while.
DeleteI always enjoyed bowling. I was never good lol but I did have fun. You have so many talents ilona. 🎳
