Good morning my little Bloggerettes. It's that time again, no I haven't forgotten, I am still here to remind you that it's the first of the month, time for the Walking Group to check in with their miles. We are past the halfway stage now, it's downhill all the way to the finishing line. I call it the finishing line, but of course it isn't for those who are making this challenge a lifestyle choice. Anyone who wants to continue reaping the benefits of regular exercise must not stop. The key to success is keeping up the momentum and making walking part of a healthy lifestyle.
Wherever you are on the scale of 1 to 1000 miles doesn't matter, as long as you are committed to doing some regular exercise. You may only be able to do short sessions of 20 minutes at a time, but over a year that could be increased as you become fitter and more active. As long as I can put one foot in front of the other I will carry on indefinitely, because some exercise is better than none at all.
It's 7.30am, Carol is not yet up so I don't know how her muscles are this morning. She made a fabulous effort yesterday. We did walk a long way, but we had rests, stopped for lunch, stopped for an ice cream, and stopped to people watch. She did a 5K Run For Life last month for charity, I am hoping that our walk has given her a taste of what is possible if she puts her mind to it.
As always I can only offer my encouragement to anyone who wants to start walking. I can't make people change their lifestyle if they don't want to, or if walking is a physical impossibility. I know I am like a broken record at times, but the benefits of regular exercise are well known. It's better to move about than to have long periods of time slouched in front of a screen.
So there you go, nagging over, let's see how you are all doing. I am on 700 and something miles. Please log your miles here.
Catch you later, Toodle pip

What Ho Ilona,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you and Carol are enjoying your time in Lancashire. Don't apologize for talking about something that you are keen and passionate about. If I was physically capable then your pep talks and motivation would certainly get me going. Enjoy.
Joan (Devon)
Hi Ilona, my total to 31st July is 631 miles.

ReplyDeleteBit jealous am I too late to start with you all?
ReplyDeleteHi Jenette. You can start whenever you like. The 1000 mile challenge runs for one year, we all started on the first of January, but you can start on the first of August. Broken down it is 2.73 miles a day. You can do it in whichever way suits you. It's not a race, it's more about making a commitment to taking regular exercise to stay fit. Report in on the first of September and tell us how many miles you did in August. Some use a fitbit, some a pedometer, or some like me have a regular walk measured on bikehike.co.uk web site, to check the distance.
DeleteGood morning Ilona, my total for the year so far is 1021. Take care. Amanda in Atlanta.
ReplyDelete90 miles to add this month making 613 so far off on town park walking group later which is an organized walk i do twice a week keep it up everyone its great
ReplyDeleteI have walked 125 miles this month which brings my running total to an amazing 673 miles. I am now a regular walker round my village on 'hello' terms with the dog walkers, people in their kitchens smiles and wave to me and I get to see the squirrels and the swifts doing their morning warm ups. What's not to like?
ReplyDeleteThat's the good part about walking regularly in your own area, you get to meet the same people.
DeleteI have only been walking for 5 weeks but have managed to walk 154.50 miles and have lost 14 lb, all thanks to my Fitbit, it's making me walk those extra miles..........
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing, Gill. So pleased you are getting stuck in there.
DeleteI've only managed 31 miles this time so am probably bottom of the class. July was very busy for me so I struggled to make time for walking. I am struggling with the commitment but this is a personality trait with me, in all areas of life I find it hard to stick with things and reach a goal, as I will flit off and get interested in other things. But I will carry on and will hopefully overcome this unmotivated phase, hope everyone is doing really well with their miles and feeling the benefits! Enjoying your holiday pics Ilona, looks like you're having a great holiday.
ReplyDeleteHello Kate. There's no ranking in this class as Ilona keeps stressing. I think you are doing amazingly to stick at it. Just do what you can and the miles will add up.
DeleteI look forward to seeing how you do in August. There have been several days this month when I've not walked and have been fed up with the whole idea......but August is a new month and a new chance. Why don't you set yourself a target of 1 mile a day and consider any more a bonus? Good luck Sue
I walked 105 miles in July, which is more than I expected because we had some very hot and some very wet days.
ReplyDeleteHilde
Hi Ilona glad you are having a good time, 100 miles in July for me bringing my total to 577 slowly catching up lol.
ReplyDeleteHello Ilona, happy August 1st.
ReplyDeleteThrough the end of July, I am at 644 miles. July was a slower month, I am blaming it on the humidity and the heat now in Arizona, but I walked every day! Once again, thank you for hosting this adventure ;)
Good to see you enjoying your holiday Ilona. Walking for the month = 82 miles.
ReplyDeleteTotal for year to date : 486 miles.
Bit of catching up to do, but I'm confident of achieving my goal.
Well done Illona(and Carol). I have to agree that it's a lifestyle choice to walk which is more agreeable in the lovely weather we are enjoying than when it's pouring with rain.
ReplyDeleteMy total to date is 661 miles. I'd hoped to reach 700 but have been ill for the past few weeks so I've slowed down a lot with some days being impossible.i'm hoping next month will be better. Sue
Hi Ilona Very slow recovery from knee problem but total mileage now 540 miles , hoping to make up the lost 40 miles over the next couple of months Cheers Shelly
ReplyDeleteTake it steady, Shelly. Don't want to knacker the knee up again.
DeleteI am not ready to join the walking group formally as I count time and not miles, but I would like to join Ilona's record and encourage walking. I walk every (almost) after work, before dinner. Just 20 minutes some times, longer other days. It really makes wonders on stress, health and gives a happier outlook on life - even when it is raining.
ReplyDeleteHi. It's the commitment to walk which is important. Yes, it's true, walking is a fantastic stress buster. It's the time that you gather your thoughts together. After work is a good time to wind down.
DeleteGreeting from Spain Ilona. I´m checking in for husband Wences who managed 228 miles during July bringing his total to 1525. He is encouraging all and everyone to join him and when our son has time he does a few miles too.
ReplyDeleteWell done Wences. He has his own little club going on there in sunny Spain.
DeleteI am happy to tell I walked 652 (Dutch) kilometres so far.
ReplyDeleteLove and happy walking, Ilona!
Greetings from Dokkum in The Netherlands,
Jeanneke.
And I am happy to hear that you have done 652 kilometres. Well done.
DeleteHello, it's Sonja from North Carolina reporting July 2017 miles = 88.72 for a total of 697.02 for the year.
ReplyDelete63.3 for me in July
ReplyDeleteMargaret in Maryland
101 miles for July. Natalie
ReplyDeleteOnly 90.5 miles in July due to illness. Total so far 577 miles. Odette
ReplyDeleteHi from New Hampshire. I'm reporting in for two months: 41.93 miles in June and 40.21 miles in July for a grand total of 174.86 miles since March 5. I was not able to increase my mileage as hoped in June and July due to some illness and some awful weather, but I'm pleased with the increase in my stamina and still hope to get to 500 by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, everyone, it is fun and encouraging to read your reports! Thanks so much, Ilona, for encouraging us to keep at it!
I don't expect anyone to walk if they are ill, or if it is raining. Glad you are feeling better. Good luck for your target
DeleteHi Ilona
ReplyDeleteMy total for July is 151 miles-quite pleased with myself! Thanks for your fab blog.
Have a nice walking August everyone! 112 km in July. Very good progress although it's still very hot. That brings me to a total of 645.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ilona for the motivation and encouragement.
Hello. 115 miles for the month, making a total of 813 so far. Had a good start to the month then quite a few 'no-walk' days at the end mainly because of the weather. Fingers crossed for a dry, bright August. Sarah (Cornwall)
ReplyDeleteAmazing, Sarah. You are ahead so can have an odd day off now and again.
DeleteHi there, Ilona. I started at the beginning of July and did 3 miles every week day and six each day at weekends so 117 in total. Thank you for inspiring me, Ilona!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have got into the swing of it, you have done extremely well for the first month.
DeleteHi Ilona, Have only managed about 19 miles this month - just completely lost my walking mojo! Hope to find it again soon and get back into the routine I'd established over the previous 18 months.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Vickey. How to get the Mojo back? Try choosing a different time of day to when you normally do it. Try varying your route. Ask a friend to join you, talking to someone may make it more interesting. Try combining it with visiting someone a mile away, walk there and back. Get on a bus and walk back. Borrow a dog to walk. Push a baby in a buggy. Walk to the shop.
DeleteSorry, Ilona, my youngest daughter got married at the weekend so I forgot to send you my walking total. I did 71 miles for July, not bad considering I was poorly for most of 1 week. Thank you for logging our Miles for us, love Helen xx
ReplyDeleteHello walkers. Forgive me if I don't reply to every comment but it would take me ages. Be assured that I am reading every one, and I an cheering you on all the way. GO GO GO you're doing just great.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone, sorry for the late check in, I have been under the weather for the last week. My total for July was 151 miles.
ReplyDeleteMichele from Australia
I walked 65 miles during July(possibly a bit more but not measured)a bit late because no signal for days where I am on the south coast-very wet and windy but still I'm out with the dogs walking drenched but loving it x
ReplyDeletelovely walking weather inbetween the rain drops. I managed 118 miles in July, that's a total of 633.5 so far this year.
ReplyDeleteJuly 129 miles. Best month so far as had a week's holiday walking everywhere. Total for year 835. Just hope I can keep it up.
