But it's just a shed. Yeah, but it's a special shed. a posh shed, situated on a main road where everyone can pull in to take a break from their journey. On the A15 not far from Caenby Corner, a busy trunk road, you can buy milk, coffee, milk shakes, ice cream, eggs, cheese, and a tasty biscuit or two to keep you going.
There is a large car park with picnic tables to the side of the building. You can look out onto the fields and watch the cows grazing, while you take a break from driving. Let's take a look inside. Sorry they don't take cash. They used to, with an honesty box for payment. It seems that not everyone is honest. They had a break in one night. Two men were caught on camera, faces covered. They didn't get much money, but they trashed the place as they used a crow bar to try and open up the vending machines. It cost the farm a lot of money to put things right, so you can see why they had to go cashless. Now it is card and phone payments only.
Drinking raw milk seems to be a growing trend. I often come past this farm and at the weekends it is always busy. People queue to get in, and they have staff on hand to help. Everything is labelled so follow instructions. Something I am not very good at. A young man came in while I was there. He was on his way back home from work. I asked him to show me. Unfortunately I couldn't make a purchase because as you know I neither have card or phone to pay.
Choose a plastic bottle, tap pay, insert bottle and fill it up. From this machine you can buy a glass bottle and keep it forever. Bring it back each time you are passing for a refill. Cheese, eggs, and snacks are available here.
Please excuse the background noise on my video. The road was very busy, and the microphone picked up the noise from the refrigeration. I thought it would be quieter inside, it wasn't.
A young man came out of the milking shed to talk to me. They have 450 dairy cows.
A group of four people turned up to buy their milk shakes. They were astounded when I said I couldn't buy anything because I don't have a card or phone. One young man asked, how do you manage? I said simple, there are some things that I cannot buy, I just accept that.

Influencers on social media often tout the benefits of drinking raw milk, but actually drinking unpasteurised raw milk can be quite dangerous.
ReplyDeleteFamous celebrities and influencers touted the benefits of taking an experimental jabby, and it has now been proven to be quite dangerous.
DeleteThat is such a neat place. I have never seen anything like that in my part of the US. We mostly have small family farmers that sale to local families and then take the cows, pigs etc to the livestock market to sell.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us how that process works and all they have to offer. 😊
Simple Question
ReplyDeleteWhy is milk pasteurised?
Answer
To kill harmful bacteria.
This bacteria is potentially more harmful to children, adults over 65 and people with compromised immune systems. Check out the facts, check out the producer, look after your own health
The information is all out there. Anyone can access it. I am not going to get into long debates about raw v pasteurised.
DeleteDebi from Leicester.Good morning Ilona!.Well now I have got an ear worm that will no doubt stay there all day and only people of a certain age will know what I mean.As Benny Hill sang,Would you like it pasteurised cause pasteurised is best?.She said Ernie, ill be happy if it comes up to me chest.Ernie!!!!...lol.xx
DeleteGood morning. I've not heard that one before. Benny Hill was hilarious.
DeleteDebi from Leicester. Its from Bennys song,The Fastest Milkman in the West. The words still make me laugh!xx
DeleteUntil my mid-teems I lived on a farm with a small Jersey dairy herd, and we got our milk twice a day straight from the cooler after milking. My older brother and I apparently suffered no ill effects from drinking unpasteurised milk as children and teenagers. Incidentally, the herd was tested frequently to ensure that it remained tuberculosis free.
ReplyDeleteWe had to switch to delivered pasteurised milk when the farm gave up the dairy herd as uneconomic, and the difference in taste and quality of the milk was dramatic.
It's looking like we might be heading back to a simpler way of buying our food. Direct from the farmer. It doesn't appear to have done you any harm. Thanks for you comment.
DeleteHurray for raw milk! We have a farm down the road that sells it, you buy the glass bottle and every time you return you just exchange the empty for a nice clean full one. In New York State, every farm selling raw milk has strict regulations and monthly inspections. My husband cannot tolerate dairy, but guess what? He has no issues with the raw milk! It's supposed to be anti-inflammatory. (I love your response to the first commenter, about the "experimental jabby". love it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. We used to have doorstep milk deliveries where you left the empty bottle out and a new full one was left. Sadly there were some petty thieves who thought it was ok to steal them. Now we have plastic. . . . No flies on me, I call it what it is, ha ha.
DeleteOn the subject of cash Co-op stores are taking cash only in many of their stores now. This is due to being hacked and they can't process card payments yet. Good job we haven't gone cashless like some countries.
ReplyDeleteSally from Devon
When a shop has staff there is no need to insist on card/phone payments. I find it quite amusing when the computer says no. Always carry cash.
DeleteWhat a beautiful spotless clean place. I used to go with my Grandfather as a child to get warm milk from the nearby farm fresh from the cows. That's why I have a natural immunity to tuberculosis. No jabs in those days!
ReplyDeleteYes, the Shed is spotlessly clean. I remember glass bottles of milk left on the doorstep. The foil tops were frequently full of holes due to the birds stealing the cream. I remember being the first one to open a bottle and get the cream. That's before the birds got it.
