Good morning.
I didn't post yesterday because I did three posts the day before. Sometimes I get ahead of myself, so I create a pause to allow people to catch up. Nobody has to read my blog, or comment, if they don't want to. But it's there if someone wants to dip in.
I try and avoid rules if I can. Yes in some instances there needs to be some rules to help things run smoothly. I had enough rules rammed down my throat when I was driving. I followed the letter of the law regarding the legal side of driving a lorry. I valued my licence and wanted to keep it.
Now I am retired I can relax a bit. I can pick and choose which rules I am willing to follow, and which I can walk away from. For me, rules have to make sense, and at the moment, the rules about free speech make no sense at all. What we are allowed to say, and what we are not allowed to say, could mean the difference between being ostracised by most of humanity, or thrown in jail.
People are getting their knickers in a twist. What the heck does mis-information and dis-information mean? As I see it the biggest purveyors of these two accusations are the UK Government and mainstream media. The big players being the BBC, and all paid for news programmes. It is in their best interests to spin a tale so far away from the truth, that it becomes complete fiction.

Ofcom have sent a letter to online service providers about the risk of their platforms being used to stir up hatred, provoke violence, and commit other offences within UK law. I copy parts of the letter, you can read it here.
Providers have duties under the UK’s Online Safety Act to protect people in the UK from illegal content, and Ofcom’s job is to make sure sites and apps have appropriate measures in place to comply with these duties, rather than tell platforms which specific posts or accounts to take down.
Your responsibilities to protect people in the UK from illegal content
Under the UK’s laws, you are required to act quickly to remove illegal content when you become aware of it. Companies can use our guidance when judging whether content or activity is illegal.

If you want to join this group as a volunteer litter picker, these are their rules.
You are so right,... "the biggest purveyors of these two accusations are the UK Government and mainstream media". Yesterday I was shocked that all day on the radio (Radio 4), they were reporting on the violence in Belfast. On and on they went about 'you're only making it bad for yourselves,.. showing your anger etc etc'..... NOTHING and I mean NOTHING about the man who is now blind, disabled,... where is the go-fund me for him? His life is ruined,... it makes me sick,... Nothing about the heros who helped , who risked their lives,.. where are the awards from the government for bravery? Oh wiait, they were white, they don't deserve anything,.... nothing in the papers, just propoganda that we can't express our anger,.... Norma in Stafford.
ReplyDeleteThe Government, any Government, are all the same. The main stream media are all in on blurring the truth. It is understandable that you are angry, thousands of people are. Try and channel your emotions in another direction. Something positive to look forward to. We have to let the naysayers fall by the wayside.
DeleteOur TV reported the violence in Belfast, but mentioned the reason for it only in half sentence "after a knife attack a day before". And if there had been only peaceful protests, I am sure they would not have been mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI tried to read the safety act, but I had to give up very soon. Concerning the group of litter pickers, their rules sound more like made for a therapy group than for people cleaning up after "all humans".
Hilde in Germany
Thank you Hilde for your comment. The online safety act is a tool to shut people up. They can't police actual crime, so they try and police peoples thoughts and opinions.
DeleteI fell foul of the litter pickers rules of this particular group. They didn't like something I said in a post. Said they only want positive comments. Asked me to remove a sentence. I decided that group wasn't for me.
I just looked at the BBC headlines after reading Hilde's comment and see in all instances they refer to the Belfast attack as "a knife attack" as if it was nothing much at all. It was in fact an attempt at a beheading. A man is now maimed for life. His life and that of those close to him never to be the same again. This is another Lee Rigby type of attack. A decapitation attempt. If the government wish to let these people into the country then there will continue to be unrest and even those not on the streets demonstrating will silently wish for a stop to letting criminals into our land.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel. It is truly horrifying what is happening in this country. I can't imagine how upsetting that would be to witness something like that.
DeleteA video came out last week. A citizens journalist waded into the Channel with his camera, waist deep, and recorded the scramble of men getting into a rubber boat. The women were on the beach with screaming children as they were left behind. The french police watched and did nothing.
