A few friends is a bonus

Thank you all you lovely people, of course you are right in saying I can spend my money on whatever I like. I do feel a bit guilty though, because a Netbook seems a bit frivolous, what do I want another gadget for. The more frugal I become the more difficult I find it to spend money, all my purchases are well thought out, do I really need it, can I manage without it. Impulse buying never enters my head.

While considering a Netbook I also considered the question why am I blogging. I started because I wanted to make a record of my life, for me to look back on when I am old. It is a compact way to store words and photographs. My old photographs, pre digital camera days, will probably be destroyed, no one in my family will want them. Now I can put photo's on my blog and they will be floating around in cyberspace forever.

I feel really chuffed that people read my words, and thank you to the new people who are leaving comments. It is not my intention to make it the biggest and the best blog around with the most followers, people dip in and people dip out. I am happy with a few really nice friends, if I lived near you I would pop round for a coffee and you would be welcome to pop round here. I don't do Facebook, or Twitter, or any of the other social networking sites, I don't want thousands of friends who have nothing in common with me, it all seems so false. I sometimes post on forums, but I have cut that down a lot now. No, I am happy with a small select band, I read you and you read me, and that's a bonus. Catch you later.

  1. 'small, select band'. I like that. People get caught up on the "follow you, follow me" "how many followers can I get before the end of the month" etc etc.
My blog is MY blog...I write it because I have "met" lovely people who think like I do, have the same ideals etc. I have elderly parents in England who like to see pictures with a story;a blog means they can revisit things on my blog whenever they want to. I would never change what I write about(which is whatever I choose) to please readers. My life is my life and you see it on the blog.
You are always welcome in my home.

  4. Enjoy your netbook, Ilona. Collecting followers is not my scene either, but I'm delighted with the little band of friends I've made on my blog too.

  5. I love your blog,it is on my speed dial page in opera.
You have plenty to say and it is all interesting.
Did have one myself but just got bored with it eventually and decided to wipe it from the face of the earth.

  6. I don't have a blog - though I did think about starting one to chart the progress of my very frugal renovations on my new little bungalow. I love your blog, you always have something interesting to say and I really enjoy seeing and reading about your travels. I have a daughter who is still in education, so our travels are curtailed somewhat by school and money, but I love to see where you have been and add them to my ' places to visit' list.It may be a while before I actually get around to seeing them for real as the wiring etc will have to come first, but I will get there as I am prepared to make sacrifices - that's how I got my bungalow, where I can sit in the garden and hear nothing but birdsong and the wind rustling through the trees- that's priceless and woth every sacrifice I have made and continue to make. Thanks for sharing your travels with us , and enjoy your netbook.

  8. If you have not kept all your old blogs, remember you can Save them by using Copy to put them into a file. Sadly the pictures don't go with the text and they have to be Saved separately. A bit of a bore but it can be done.

    Yours, Hugh Saunders
