Soup of the day.

Hello. The future King messed up my plans today. I was going to go to Hull to see the newly refurbished Ferens Art Gallery, the new Humber Streety Gallery, and the Blade installation. I checked my Twitter and saw that Charlie and Cami were going to be there. Oh bother, don't want to get tied up with a crowd of people, and Ferens was closed until 2.30pm anyway. Weather permitting I shall make the trip across the bridge tomorrow.
So, plan 'B' is to tidy up the spare bedroom, there is stuff in there which will have to go. I did my walk early to get that out of the way first. Lunch today was soup. I didn't manage to eat all the salad last night so it went in the pan with some carrots, peas, cucumber and spring beans. Also added soft cheese and spices.
Here is a little video I made as I was about to eat my soup.

Back upstairs. Thank you for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

  1. Love your video. It is so good to see you personally. That is exactly how I make my soup and I agree with you who want to eat canned soup when home make tastes so much better. Have a great week.

  2. Ilona I absolutely love watching your videos, I go very often do a fridge soup, looking through the fridge seeing what needs using up, I don't think people realise you can use salads in soups.

  3. I think the cheese in the soup really adds a kick (especially Stilton or Danish blue). I laughed and laughed at the '2 soups' video; Victoria Wood is so missed for her gentle humour and Julie Walters is such a fine actress. I remember an interview with Victoria Wood (who was notoriously shy and hated publicity) and she said that herself and Julie Walters were in a northern café when an elderly waitress took their order and got things muddled, and so sprung the idea of the sketch. Along the lines of the famous 'Mrs Overall' in 'Acorn Antiques' (that really does make me hoot with laughter). Amanda

  5. one of my favourite video clips - tooooosooooups. makes me laugh every time I think about it. I am back cycling and managed 12.5 miles on Monday. Hospital consultant is OK with it but with advice to be very careful not to fall as the fracture could go again. I will be very very careful

  8. Ferens is worth a visit. The Blade doesn't look real when viewed from certain angles. Bowhead was disappointing though (at the Maritime museum) seen better on David Attenborough prog. I do like that museum best though. Also went to the other museum to look at the Roman mosaics. Didn't have time to do Transport or William Wilberforce house. Save for next time. Took a photo opposite Wilberforce outside of the White Hart, where we had our wedding reception 21 years ago !

  9. Hello! Do you ever use dried beans/lentils/chick peas for your cooking? You can get a LOT of mileage when buying bulk packets of these from the stores, adding them to fresh vegetables and leftovers. The list of beans available is just huge, and lentils too. This could be a bit 'heavy' on the digestive system, but a charcoal pill beforehand will sort it out. Wish I had discovered these ingredients sooner! Taste great too - butterbeans.... Hmmm!xx

    1. Hi. No I don't use dried beans and peas. I can't be bothered with the soaking in advance or the long cooking time. I don't plan ahead with my meals. However I do have a packet of dried soup mix, mainly lentils, it was cheap. It will get used eventually

  10. My husband who is a huge fan of yours made the comment - how sensible if we had another war people like you would survive to teach others. Regards Audrey

  11. Ilona, I just had to watch your soup-making video, and thanks, you really made me smile! I agree that a home-made soup is the very best, though I sometimes throw in a small, diluted tin of chicken noodle soup into one of my concoctions just to make a bigger potful. Anyway, quite enjoyed your posh and clear speaking tone (reminds me of a friend of mine) and laid-back method of soup-making. You teach us all a lot. Have a great day.
