Using my freezer wisely.

How to get seven portions of chopped onions for 20p. First, buy two bags of yellow sticker onions, 10p each. Then divide them between plastic pots, any pots that you have, and put them in the freezer. This is how I save money. By buying going out of date food, and freezing it.
Head for your reduced cabinets in your supermarket, see what you can find, buy it even though you are not going to eat it immediately, and freeze it for the future. ilona

  1. Wise indeed. I dehydrate fruit and veges as well, a good alternative and gives you portable food

  2. Excellent advice. I do this with both meat and other foods - it can make a big difference to my grocery budget. I hate to throw out food.

  3. Ive learnt so much off here over the years and freezing my food has saved me loads of cash.I save my washed out food containers...I never buy any...and freeze anything from a few bits of veg or any gravy or stock that is left over. Not one crumb is wasted in my house now.Years ago,I wished that I had one of those small fridges with just a small freezer container at the top.Which meant that I had to go food shopping every couple of days. But there fore spending more money, petrol and time. Now It can be well over 2 to 3 weeks in between shopping trips. And at least most of the food has been eaten and what isnt will go with something I am buying in the new lot.Although I hate going shopping, once Im in the store I look on it as a challenge to see how much I can get for my money!xx

  4. Wish my Tesco had the bargains like yours. Very little gets reduced. Like your ideas for menus. How are you getting along without cheese?

    1. No cheese? Ilona isn't a vegan. Has fish sometimes too so not a vegetarian either.

    2. Get a life Troll Anne, or whatever your name is. Keep up. I stopped eating fish a few years ago. I'll let this comment through, though you might have noticed that many of yours don't get published. Can't be doing with bitter nitpickers. Go back into your hole.

    3. Liz, I am getting on fine with my lack of cheese. I sometimes struggle to cut down on certain foods, so I put a few rules in place to curb my scoffing. I am not buying cheese that can be easily nibbled straight from the fridge.

  5. Ilona, such a simple thing to do and yet thousands of people never think of freezing fresh, about to expire or even leftover foods which is why sooo much food is wasted. My husband and I cannot afford to waste food. I always think of how many people are starving every day and yet people throw away food because they were usually too lazy to care for it properly. Crying shame, really. Any leftover veggies I have go into the freezer and added to my veggie soup when I make it. Excellent post to "help" those who cannot figure it out for themselves.
