I went out this afternoon to pick up some rubbish that I saw on Sunday. Last week some workmen were digging up a grass verge to lay some pipes underneath. They left a right mess. All the litter that was buried underneath the grass was now laid on top of bare earth.
I filled one bag then put a fresh bag in the trolley and carried on. Then I went round the corner into the next road. Oh my, there were tons of rubbish hidden in the bushes. I set about digging it all out with my stick. Then I had to walk back to my car because I needed more bags.
I found a lot of glass bottles and plastic bottles full of pee. As I was tidying up and bagging everything, a lorry driver pulled up to park for the night. He got out of his cab and put his gloves on and helped me to sort it out. Dropped at my usual place at the pond. I was pleased to see that those I left there on Sunday had been collected. Thank you Council workers.
Here's a video I knocked up this morning, along similar lines as the previous one.
Thanks for popping in. Catch ya tomorrow. Toodle pip. ilona

Good for u my old friend
ReplyDeleteWhat a haul!! Enjoyed the videos. Always so optimistic. Keep on keeping on!!!! 🤗
ReplyDeleteI would find that amount of rubbish overwhelming,.. and wouldn't know where to start. Doesn't it hurt your back bending over all the time?
ReplyDeleteI don't have to bend very much at all. Using a litter pick stick means I only have to reach forward a little bit. If something is too far away under a hedge, I leave it there. Using a trolley means I can stay upright, no carrying a heavy bag.
DeleteVery kind of you to clean up and bag rubbish. I bet it looks so much better when you're finished. I would do the same here in my community but I am more of a city dweller and people around my neighborhood are, for the most part, clean and tidy. If anything is dumped in the gutter, one or other of us makes sure it finds its way to a trash bin. My 'big thing' is taking care of any stray cats that venture into my orbit. That means spay, neuter, trap-and-release, or adopt as possible. I just released a stray male cat after neutering and treatment from my vet and who has now been happily adopted by a neighbor so all good there. Carry on carrying on!!
ReplyDeleteIt must be bliss to live in a mostly clean environment. We don't have much of a problem in my village, but in town some of the streets are covered in litter. Well done with the cat rescues.
