Welsh getaway part 9. The end

On the last day, from Westbury I was heading for Gloucester. Around the ring road there and onto Cheltenham. This route is going to take me through The Cotswolds, maybe a chance for another stop. Bourton on the Water? Nope, too busy. Stow on the Wold? Nope, too busy. Moreton in the Marsh? Still busy but I made a stop at Tesco to pick up some food. The place was heaving with tourists so I beat a hasty retreat. I've seen it all before anyway.
I joined the A429, which is the old Roman Road, the Fosse Way, heading north. I used to use this route a lot when bringing loads of cement down from Rugby to Cirencester. At Halford you leave the main road and take the B4455, another straight road which goes all the way up to the A5.
I crossed over the M45, and did a right turn on the A425 towards Southam. Now I was ready for another stop. St James Church is an amazing sight, overlooking the playing fields.

This was formally the Bank House on the main street.
Southam Congregational Church.
Ooooh look, the circus has come to town.
An hour later I continued my journey back up north. From Southam to Daventry. Follow signs for M1 north. The layout of some of the junctions have changed since I was down this way. Once on the M1 it's plain sailing back home.
I stopped for fuel, and a toilet break, at Leicester Forest East Services. I know, the most expensive place to buy petrol. I got just enough to see me back home. Oh my, look what is happening here. I think it will be many more years until people start to think about the transition to electric cars.
That's the end of that trip. More memories to add to the collection I already have. You are welcome to read my diary, but please make lots of memories of your own.
Have a good weekend. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. I wonder what these people considered ancient. I mean, the ones who built these beautiful structures back in their prime.
