Walking by moonlight

It was 3pm when I went out for a walk this afternoon. Five miles usually takes me an hour and a half so I should have got back before dark. It didn't happen because I stopped to talk to a woman who was seeing to her horses.
The sun was going down on one side, and the moon was coming up on the other. Looking like a full moon tonight.
There is only about ten minutes between these two photo's. Passing a derelict farm building.

Should have taken a torch really but I didn't expect to be caught out in the dark. Good job I know the route, walking across fields in the moonlight is a bit eerie. Pleased to see the lights as I approached the village. I really must set off a bit earlier.

  3. Well, you got to see the Wolf Moon anyway. I saw it on the horizon as it was rising, but now it is lurking behind the house and I can't see it from my east-facing office window.

    1. I didn't know it was called a Wolf Moon. It was eerily spooky but nice.

  4. Being outdoors in moonlight is something special, but I would always prefer to have someone with me! I am glad you knew the route well enough to get home safely.

    1. I wouldn't want to be in an area I didn't know, in the dark.

  5. It was a lovely day yesterday and I looked at the sky last night and the moon was beautiful, it was the first time I knew it was called Wolf Moon, i will try and read about it. My reading is getting a lot better but still takes me a long time to read.
Glad you had a nice walk and I did yesterday afternoon, it's quite dismal this morning.

  6. I've been taking a photo at 8am every morning from the same spot each day since Jan 2nd and it is amazing the light changes so fast.

    1. I know someone who did something similar with a tree. Fascinating how it changed over a year. Are you going to carry on with it?

  7. I tried for a photo of the Full moon yesterday evening but it wasn't very clear, high thin cloud I think

  8. I really like walking in moonlight. As a child I hated and feared it - well not moonlight but walking in dark or twighlight. I had to walk to school alone every morning, it was 3 miles, 2 miles in deep woods (the road goes throught thick forest). I was afraid of foxes and everything, I used to stare only coinsized spot of torch light in front of me.
Nowadays I prefer going out for a walk in dark. No-one is there bothering me. I could lie and say I know all my paths by heart, but I don't. If I go in to the forest I don't know if there's branch fallen off tree or something, so I need to use torch.
But this week has been wonderful, no need of artificial light! I like full moon. I even saw Venus few times, but sadly missed hte eclipse.
But I feel I'm in better control of my environment when I don't use torch. With torch I can only see what is illuminated by the light, without it I can see so much more!
But to be honest, there are always times when I need extra light, sometimes even 'Suma likes to walk beside me near light.

I never get decent pictures of moon. The first one is beautiful.

  9. Hi Ilona, do you plan to do another video series in the future? I enjoyed the one you did about your trucking life.

    1. I have no plans at the moment. Take each day as it comes. Something might pop into my head, something might not.

  11. I love being out in the moonlight...Gotten to be a bit of a chicken though, frankly am often a bit afraid. Too many nasty things going on round about where I am at (and even though I live in a "decent" area)...sad...Remember as a child often loving being out in the night.

Ran across this, most likely you have seen it, but if not, though you might like a gander..

  12. I love to get up early while the world is quiet. This morning I went out into my garden at 6am and saw The Great Bear constellation right over my back door. It was magical!

    1. Yes, I am an early bird. In the summer I get hardly any sleep because I am up as soon as it is light, and stay up late.

  13. Interesting how at this time of year, day becomes night so quickly. Makes you want to hurry indoors and be warm. A good thing!

    1. Yes, quickly is the word. Hurry along as it is getting dark, but beware you could get caught out.
