Emergency.

This was the scene on the A1 yesterday. One of several pictures posted by Yapp App. The road was closed for several hours while emergency services did their thing, and investigations and recovery went on.
It saddens me to see accidents involving heavy goods vehicles. I have come across several over the years. One of the drivers at Rugby Cement, while I was working there, came off the road on the M62. Sadly Harold had a heart attack and died at the scene. The driver of this vehicle died yesterday.
No doubt the reason for this accident will be revealed at a later date. Someone said in the comments that it was carrying sand. No it isn't, it's grain. There are no baffles inside the trailer, the load will move about in transit, just like liquid would in a tanker. When the front wheels get a bit too close to the edge of the road the load will shift and pull it over.
I was driving my car on the M62 many years ago, taking my friends to Manchester Airport. I was in the third lane, when a lorry just in front of me, in the left hand lane, suddenly veered off the carriageway and fell down a bank. It was shocking to see. In an instant everyone slowed down and stopped.
Before the internet no one knew much about accidents on the road, unless it was reported on the telly news. Now it is all over social media as people get out their phones and report what they are seeing from the scene. The ignorance and stupidity of those who complain about the emergency services closing the road for a long time have no idea of the complexity of investigations and recovery needed to take place in such incidents.
A lorry driver has lost his life, his family will be devastated, so if you are unlucky enough to have been caught up in a massive tailback, just sit tight and wait, and shut the fuck up. Engage with your brain. You will be going home tonight. Someones life has been changed in an instant, and they may never go home.
Now I wipe the tears from my eyes and get ready to go and sit with my friends at Coffee Morning.
Catch ya later. ilona
