Sometimes you have to chuck

Hello. On the search for the right socks suitable for walking a lot of miles, I emptied my sock drawer on the bed. What, how many chuffin pairs of socks have I got? I knew the drawer was stuffed full. I don't like to throw them out if I can get a few more wears out of them, but honestly, do I need 62 pairs?
Marie Kondo whatsit thingy not needed here. I went through the lot and decided to be brutal. Worn heels and toes, holes, grubby ones, all got the chop. I managed to get it down to 30 pairs. Still too many, but at least I won't have to buy any more for the next few years.
While I was in the vicinity I thought I might as well cull a few more items of underwear from the other two drawers. The top drawer is for pants, that was not a problem, only three pairs in there, the rest were in the wash.

The bottom drawer is miscellaneous, tights, knickers, bra's, leggins and other odds and sods. There was stuff to throw away in there too. Tatty old bra's, knickers that I will never wear again, and holey tights, they have to go, they are no good to anybody. I came across this pair of black silky lacy knicks. blimey, it must be at least twenty years since I last wore those. Wonder if they still fit.

Yep, still fit, with a little bulge here and there. I won't show you my flabby bum from the back. This is how you need to pose if you are modelling. One leg crossed over the other to give the illusion you are slimmer than you really are. If you look at professional models you will notice that they all look like they want to pee. They stand there in front of the camera with their thighs clamped together as if they might wet their pants at any minute. Sometimes they cross over their feet, that sends a message to the photographer to hurry up because they can't hold it much longer. That line down the middle of my belly is my hystericalrectomy scar.  Having your lady bits taken out has it's positive side, you get a free tummy tuck.

I have four pairs of bra's left, too pretty to throw away. I only wear them on special occasions, like when I dress up to go out, which is not very often. All other times I like to feel comfortable. Wearing a bra feels like I have a vice around my chesticles and gives me trapped wind. What a relief to take it off and let the wind make it's way south and exit into the outside world.

I feel a whole lot better now having downsized my undies. I only need the basics, functional and cheap, that's me.

Thanks a lot for the amusing comments on the previous post, they made me chuckle. Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

  2. Wow what a lot you have/had even more than me, I really must do the same and have a good old sort out.

  3. I decided quite a while ago that whether it is using a glass made from crystal, or indeed a fancy bra, why save them for special occasions? Feel fab all the time in your undies or raise a glass at any time not just when you are out for the evening.

  4. You have a lovely figure! Walking works!! I've sorted my undies out this week - but I didn't have as many things as you 😁

  5. Just a suggestion: it's especially easy if you own a rotary cutter, otherwise you can use a pair of shears and cut the old socks, tight, undies into rings or narrow strips. I have used these to stuff pillows, as well as draft dodgers. I wonder if that may be something for you to use as you create items to sell off at your craft stall to raise funds for charity, just a thought and no need to purchase pillow filling as you are upcycing these castoffs.

    1. Good idea, but I have to draw the line somewhere. I have art and craft ideas coming out of my ear holes, and masses of materials to work with. Plenty to keep me busy.

  6. Nice pose! I make dusters out of mine, stuff them into things (draft dodgers as CTMOM said) or else I chop them up and make a good pair out of say, two dodgy ones. Also, if some readers may wear a hijab or a Jewish tichel - use the good bits of the knicker fabric (no one will know) to make your bun more fulsome. Natalie

    1. My bra size is 36A, has been for years. Whatever size I have I still wouldn't like them.

  8. I have a hard time throwing out socks and underpants. There is always "one more time" left, lol.

So now, when they are at that "I'll wear it one more time" stage, I put them in a zip lock bag and take them on holiday with me. They get worn and left in the rubbish. Cuts down on washing when I get home.

    2. I do exactly the same thing! That way I have some space in my suitcase to bring home a few things. My friends used to laugh at me but now a few of them are doing the same thing. :-)

    4. How funny!! My husband and I do exactly the same - take all the grotty stuff and throw it away when we're away. :)

  9. Woo Hoo!! Looking fab! Nice bras, too. I'm with you though...I hate bras and only wear one if I'm going out. Gave up real bras years ago in favor of stretchy t's with the bra made in.

  11. You do have such a nice pose Ilona.Perhaps you could become an artists model.I have lots of lovely photos of my mum who was much more glamorous than me,she always posed as you have on photos.I have a situation with my undies which has become a source of stress -odd socks, uncomfortable bras and tatty comfy drawers or lacy ridiculous ladies frill frills that are not suitable for my dropped posterior.I did buy new sensible ones but they came up to my waist and showed above my dropped waisted jeans, they also need to be chucked.Ilona you have the body a teenager would be proud of-good on you x

  13. All you girls are so lucky to have small boobies......you couldn't possibly go with out a bra if you'd inherited larger ones. Would love to be able to fit into one of those skimpy liitle things Ilona. Rae x

    1. At school, we had two categories of bra wearers. The "itty bitty t...y committee" and the "over the shoulder boulder holder brigade."

  14. I've always worn cheap and cheerful underwear but in recent times found a lot of my bras were quite uncomfortable. I decided to be measured and fitted for bras at a local shop, and they are so comfortable I hardly know I am wearing them. As things had started to "go south" so to speak, the proper support of decent straps and well made cups has made a huge difference. I would look terrible without a bra these days!! Just speaking for myself btw as I know many ladies are lucky enough not to need to wear one. The lady in the shop told me that by alternating them and washing them carefully I should get around 5 years wear out of them which means they will more than pay for themselves.

  15. I have two peeves when it comes to women's clothes - inadeqate/non-existent trouser pockets (don't like to always have to carry a handbag) and tops that expose bra straps so that I'm forever hitching them out of the way.

  18. Your hystericalrectomy made me laugh. I have the same scar as you from a vertically cut cesarean which meets a horizontal scar across my lower abdomen resulting from another operation. Not as tidy as yours and the total affect gives me what I fondly call bum cheeks on the front! I threw out my skimpy lacy knickers in favour of comfort. I do however have too many pairs of odd socks all wearable plus all my late husbands socks which are all in good working order.

  19. Great legs. I cut off socks to use to put over my canning jars to cut out light and to keep them from clinking together. I hate bras and never wear them. When I quit working, I quit wearing them.
