What do you do?

Hello. Something to chatter about, I have to go out and walk a dog. What do you think of those blogs where you click on to have a look at a post which you think you might be interested in, then only get a snippet of it, and have to click again to get the whole story? Bloomin frustrating I say. Most of the time I read the introductory first couple of sentences, then think, 'oh stuff it I can't be bothered', then dump the whole lot.

I want to see the blog post in it's entirety, so I can skim read, get the main points, then decide whether to comment or not. What do you do? Stick with it, or move on?

I'm the same with yoootoooob. I look at the title, the content, is it a subject I might be interested in, if it is I'll have a look. Then you get the waffley introduction, this is sponsored by bla bla bla, taking ages to show all the bits and bobs you'll need if you want to complete the project. Just get on with it. I am forever fast forwarding to get to the main point.

My goodness I'm so impatient. I have to stop myself finishing other people's sentences. It's so rude, I know, but sometimes I know what they are going to say before they say it. I'm always one step ahead. Then my brain then shuts off, because I know what's coming next. I am a terrible listener.

Must go now, dog wants a wee, he will be waiting with his legs crossed, ha ha.

Catch you later.

  1. To be honest, it doesn't bother me too much. The layout that annoys me is when you can't see how to get to the previous entry.

  2. I am with you, I can't stand to have to click to read more. Plus if the blog has a busy home page, flashing ads, ect, I always move on.

  4. I'm not too bothered by clicking twice if it's a blog I read regularly.
    Hate Ads!

  5. I agree with you Ilona. I like to see the whole post and don't see the point in putting out a little bit of it first. I am also quite impatient so maybe that's why.

  6. On yahoo, anything that has "sponsored" on it is just clickbait to try and get you to view advertisements. Many other sites are the same. I discount the value of the info they might give by the waste of my time to try and get to it. So I skip most of those sites. Ana usa

  7. I read yours and one other daily basis and then have lot of others which I may or not read weekly. I don't like adverts. I do a lot of job hunting so come off there to look at blogs and I see job adverts grrrr. do prefer yours where you can see everything in one go, If I just get a snapshot and blocks to click on to get more I probably wont bother. I have put some to read and then taken them back off for that reason. I seem to be able to post easily now my name is there rather than anonymous so that makes it better too. do like the frugal nature of the blog, the everyday life of people in general rather than buying a mag for celebrities, this is real life, normal life, I cant see me ever having a vast amount of money, but as long as I get my detached, with a bit of space from people ill be happy. ive been in this terraced for 25 years now and feel suffocated from all sides, garden and front, don't really enjoy any of the house anymore...... but hey ho, I have a roof over my head and food in my tum, and money in my pocket, I'm a lot better off than lot of people. Not sure if you watched the recent series of rich house poor house, but it may be an interesting topic to see what people thought of the series, if your stuck for a blog topic anytime.

    3. Thanks Guys, the neighbours one side have just moved in and they are okay, don't hear much apart from a bit of decorating which is understandable. the other side has a dog that howls, or if its not howling I'm waiting for it to howl, its the sort of sound that hits you and twists and you cant relax. The landlord to the family had a Doberman which barked incessantly, when they lived here, she chucked partners clothes out the window and they chased each other down the street, the current family, have a trampoline, 6 ft pool in the summer, bouncy castle parties, come out and have every conversation on the phone in the garden, are generally aren't very nice at all, really hate living by someone I dislike, I hear talking, wardrobes banging etc etc. I just want peace and contentment, I actually hate coming back from somewhere to come home, so know its time to move on. being out of work is compounding the problem sadly as I'm here all the time now :(

  9. Thank goodness for the fast forward button. Some people do rather ramble, I like the ones that get to the point.

  10. Hi Ilona, the only reason I have my blog set up that way with a snippet and then the rest is that a few years ago a blogger I know had their blog mined - which means all the content was copied and set up on a new blog under a different name, basically stolen. When research was done at that time apparently if you do the snippet only then their bots cannot mine your blog. I don't know if it is true but that is why I do it as have no advertising on my blog:)

  11. :). I agree, ina, also impatient...why it takes folks so long to get to the end of the sentence...or paragraph is a mystery. I want to waive my hand and say speed up please!

  12. I don't mind this,Ilona. My own blog has been set up in this way but as I wasn't able to do it myself, this is how the web designer did it. What I dislike are pop up ads and I paid for my own website simply to ensure that any readers weren't pestered by adverts. I just like blogs that are easy to read and use.

  13. I prefer to see the whole post too but that's not what I really dislike. I really dislike the pop up adds and sign up for my newsletter pop ups, time for me to pop off. In fact I just hate adds, it's ok when people say they like something or have had a great experience somewhere, but some sites just push stuff because they are affiliates. That's that off my chest!

  14. Because i adore your blog! :-)

  15. BRAVO. I feel exactly as you do.

Having said that, I think (not sure), that folks who do that, do so to extra extra count on page views. They use page view counts to get better rates (higher) from advertisers on their site. Or they use higher page counts to get free goodies which they do reviews on. Still, I don't care for it..sigh.

  16. What irritates me is to have the blog post darken and a pop-up ask if I want to subscribe. After the rude and startling interruption of what I was reading, how can they imagine that's a good time to ask?

I once read that you know you're impatient if a cup of instant coffee takes too long! :)

    Wishing you well!

  17. I don’t have the patience to wait for pop-ups, email solicitations or anything else that gets in my way of reading. (Maybe I should have written READING!) I’m there to read not play around. I also can’t stand the jumping around of things. If it’s too hard to concentrate on the content I leave and never return. I find i’m Having a very difficult time leaving comments, too. Goooooogle doen’t Work half the time, i’ve Gone back to check and there’s nothing there. These days, I hit the Anon button and sign my name. I feel that someday soon, I won’t be reading or commenting on very many blogs.

  18. Agree with the blog clicking again thing, it puts me off and I usually don't read further. Have to say I also dislike being interrupted and having my sentences finished for me. You're right Ilona, it is rude. Karen

  19. Hi Ilona, well I find the same thing. I quite often know exactly what someone is going to say next.the problem is age , at 63. I think I've heard almost every combination of things and subject people are talking about. It's very annoying,I want to hear something new and exiting, something I've never heard before.but on the plus side we are wiser than when we were starting out.always look on the positive side..I'm off to learn about dismantling pallets ,now there's something that no matter how many videos u watch it's still very very difficult to do !!!! Exiting stuff !,!!! Susan

    1. Hi Susan, I just laughed at your comment (and in the US laughs are few and far between!). I used to teach writing at a university, and at some point I found myself thinking about my students "How can you not already know that?" Time to admit that I should perhaps find another occupation, and let the youngsters be themselves, just figuring things out, which was one of the joys of my teaching, sharing that youthful enthusiasm and optimism. And yes, I am impatient and have wanted to finish people's sentences my whole life, which I realize is rude, but when your brain is on fast-forward, it's very difficult to wait for other people to finally reach an obvious conclusion. So I think the problem is a mix of age (I'm searching for new areas to learn about, at 73) and the fact that some people's brains just work faster than others'. I'm not sure if that's a blessing or a curse, but we are who we are. Good luck with the pallets--I'm right there with you, thinking "Okay, how can I add to the value of this resource."

    2. I have a tendency to talk a little fast and over people talking sometimes particularly on the phone when you cant see their faces and gestures. Id much drather someone have something different to add to my sentence rather than end my sentence or repeat the last bit too me, I know what ive said I don't want to hear it again. My partner does that a lot to let me know he has heard me, usually about the last five words :) it just makes me fed up and a little frustrated.

  20. I'm completely in agreement with you, especially about the blogs. I think I am a very suspicious person. I always think I'm being tricked into something if I click to read further lol I do enjoy you so much!

  22. I like the whole article. On you tube some people say the same thing over and over and bore me silly. Hopefully, they learn and get on with it.
