All the fun of the fair

Hello. Tuesday morning and I am still ploughing through the photo's I took on Sunday at Winterton Agricultural Show. Let's start this post with colour. The funfair was really good, the young whippersnappers loved it. Lots of screaming, lots of laughter. I did not have an urge to join them on the rides. Been there, done that.

Dodgems, always popular. Drive like crazy while trying to avoid each other. You are not supposed to crash, though I suspect many do just that.

A giant swing with a difference. It rotates as well as swinging. Ooops, I can feel my lunch making an unscheduled appearance.

And two lovely Fodens which transported all the gear to the site. These people work really hard to get their show on the road. Unload it all, set it up, then work on the rides until late at night. Fair play to them. They do not shirk away from hard work. That job would have suited me if I hadn't settled for a conventional house and job lifestyle.
Who'd have thunk it, a pick and mix stall for pet treats. Some of it looks good enough for human consumption. There are a lot of pampered pets about.
Aaaah, this was lovely to see. A fancy dress parade for pony and rider. Here they are getting ready for a ride around the show arena. The proud mums have done a fantastic job of creating their outfits. A lot of skill and imagination has gone into this.

Bob the Builder looked amazing.

Hard to pick a best of show, they are all worthy of a prize. The Market Trader was fabulous, complete with sausages, pies, and vegetables.

There they go.
A few more photo's to go, from a stall in the craft tent. Something that someone was selling caught my eye.
Yesterday was a trip to the vet for Billy dog. Carol was worried about his sore bottom, it didn't look too good at all. She has all but given up on driving, so I stepped in and took him to the vet. Now he has antibiotics so we hope that will do the trick.
It's time for breakfast, then I will decide what to do for the rest of the day. Thanks for popping in. We will catch up soon. Toodle pip.   ilona

More show pictures

There was lots to see and people to chat with, at the show yesterday. The Arts and Crafts tent was decorated with lots of arty projects. Flower displays in abundance.
Miniature gardens on a plate.

Needlework . Decorated cushions.

Bunch of flowers in a teacup.
Jubilee decorations.

Apologies for the rope across the front of it. I should have asked someone to drop it down out of the way.

As well as four legs, there was lots to look at with four wheels. I fell in love with these magnificent machines. These monsters are a thing of beauty to me. Let me win the lottery and I would buy one to play with. I asked the salesman if he could fix up a test drive for me. No such luck. 😭
Nice paint job for the Jubilee. Shame to take this out on a muddy field.
A good selection of Classic and Vintage cars.
Howzabout a really old Roller. Gorgeous. Lady Fortescue Blyth was sitting in the back.

A friend proudly showing off his beloved Morris Minor.
I have seen these dinky little trailers on yoootooob videos. First time I have seen one in real life. There's a comfy bed in the back but you have to get out to make a drink in the kitchen.

The Classics had a trundle around the ring and lined up in the centre for a photo shoot.
That's all I have time for to put pics on now. I will come back later with more. Catch ya later. Toodle pip.   ilona

The day ahead.

Good morning. A bit blustery today, let's see how it pans out. Garden looking good, keeping on top of the tidying. Lawn will need mowing in a couple of days, but at the moment the birds are loving foraging for morsels of cat food which I chuck out. It soon disappears, I am sure they have a radar system going to alert each other of fresh nosh appearing.

I had a nice chat with the lady from the Hedgehog Hospital yesterday at the show. They had a hog in a wire pen on the ground. It was busy burrowing in a blanket, digging into the grass, and nibbling it's food. It is a blind hedgehog so it doesn't know whether it is day or night. It will never be released because it wouldn't survive in the wild. The kids love watching it.

I need to go to the Post Office this morning to pay my Council Tax. A Billy dog walk later. And I must sort out the photo's of the show yesterday. I did make a short video of the Moggies playing their slot on the stage, but I deleted it because I knew there would be  copyright issues with the songs.

Checking the computer this morning I just found this video. Anyone familiar with Problem Reaction Solution will know what it is about. It's an old video from 22 years ago. He was so right.

Now time for breakfast. Bran Flakes and a banana. Catch ya ya later. Toodle pip.   ilona

EDIT. Another video where Ike was right.

SECOND EDIT. Questions that need answering.

Friendly family event.

I've had a smashing day at Winterton Agricultural Show. It's a two day event, Saturday covers the agricultural side of things, Sunday is the family day. The weather was kind, I chatted to lots of people, took photographs, listened to the Moggies, a local group, and had a glass of cider. It was a great atmosphere, everyone was out to enjoy themselves.
This is a smaller show compared to the big County shows. It's got a friendly and relaxed vibe to it. Cheaper to get in as well. £7 for adults, £5 for seniors.
Here are a few photo's there are more to come. Horse boxes came from all over Lincolnshire. I watched the show jumping for a while. I met a lovely young lady sitting proudly on her pony. She was only seven years old, but already showed her confidence in the saddle. Her mum and grand mum were there to support her. In this pic they are all getting ready to take their turn in the ring.

I tried to take photo's just as they were going over the jumps. Not easy to do.

This one would have been good, but I chopped the top of her hat off.
This is the young seven year old on her white pony.

The Dog Show was very busy, anyone with a dog could enter. There were twelve categories, including Cutest Puppy, Best Rescue Dog, and Dog with the Waggiest Tail. All good fun.

The Moggies are a local group. They do all sixties songs, which went down very well. People were up on their feet dancing. I knew about them but I had never heard them play before. I must say, they were really good. Here is their Facebook page.  They have lots more gigs coming up for the rest of the year.
Right, it's 9pm so I'll end this here. Lots more photo's coming up. Thanks for popping in. Toodle pip.   ilona

A new garden to explore

I extended my local walk yesterday to take in the Park. I see there are some new features. Wooden carved critters, a nice game for children to play as they walk through the woods. Get them running around and searching for the animals.

There is also a new Sensory Garden, which is next to the Walled Garden. A place to sit and dream.

A shelter for a picnic maybe, or a chat with friends.
The flowers are blooming.

Still more planting up to do to fill out the beds. Give it a couple of months and it will be gorgeous I think.

I got caught out in a downpour and had to wait until it passed over. The trees gave me lots of cover, and the brolly kept the worst off me.

I'm going to eat now, then go to a Country Fair a few miles away.

Thanks for popping in. Toodle pip.   ilona

St Johns Church in Scofton.

Good morning. It is Saturday. I was going to put this on last night, but I got kind of held up and didn't have time. After the dog walk I went to see my friend Angela for a natter catch up. She made us a meal so I stopped there longer than I intended to. By the time I got home my brain had turned to mush with all the talking we did.
Every day is a fresh new start and now we have the weekend. Look at this beautiful church. I have chosen a few pics, whittled down from the dozen or so that I took.

While I was there a man on a bicycle came along. He asked me if I had seen the carvings of an owl and a cat on each side of the door at the back. I hadn't noticed them, his mention prompted me to take a photo. Apparently there is a connection to the poem The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear. I don't know that poem so I looked it up. The shells over the door arch are also significant because they went to sea on a boat. Interesting.

You can join me for a look around, but we can't go in, it was locked.
Scofton is on the Osberton Estate. People who live here work on the farms and the land to keep it tidy. I came across this odd arrangement of logs and twigs. They were sited over a deep hole in the ground, which looked manmade rather than a natural hole. I have no idea what this is about.

My walk took the shape of a figure of eight on the map. Time was getting on and I had to work out the route back to the car in the time I had left. There is quite a lot of woodland in these parts, and as it was a hot day it was lovely to walk under the shade of the trees. Luckily I didn't get lost.

I finished off my sandwich and biscuits when I got back to the car at Ranby. I probably won't be coming back here for a while as I have done five walks in this area now. Time to look for somewhere else.
Thanks for popping in. Enjoy your weekend. Toodle pip.   ilona

Check in for the Walking Group.

Good morning. It's Friday the 1st of July, check in day for the members of our International Walking Group. 🏃 Time flies when you are having fun. 😍 We are at the halfway stage of our challenge. The target is 500 miles. Have you done it?

Looking back at my calendar I started June on 424 miles, and finished on 517 miles. 😎I had 4 no walking days, 6 walking in other places away from home days, 2 local 5 mile walks, and lots of 2 and 3 mile village walks. I like to mix it up a bit. Walk a bit further when I feel like it, fill in the gaps with village walks. A change of scenery makes things a bit more interesting. 🙋

Let's hear it from you. How are you all doing? Please update your news here. ✅ You can come back to this page at any time.

Random pics from the archives.

Now it's time for breakfast. 🍩 We will catch up soon. Toodle pip.   ilona
