A very cold day

Good evening. Not a lot to talk about. It's been flippin cold today. I did my three miles this afternoon, layered up, hardly any flesh showing, just cold cheeks and cold wet nose. A thick skirt over my joggy bottoms, over my leggins, and extra leg warmers. Boots and socks. Long sleeve t shirt, cardigan, sweatshirt, fleece, and a big jacket with a furry hood. Two scarves. I tried to keep up a good fast pace, but I'm sure all this weight slowed me down.

We are half way through the month and I am on 41 miles, which is about on target for the 84 miles at the end of Jan. It might be cold, but at least it's not raining. Have to look on the bright side, that's until the snow starts. How is everyone else doing?

Now I am going to have a cheese sandwich with caramelised onion chutney, and a glass of sherry. Are you going to join me? What's your tipple?

Stay snug and warm. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. Now that’s what you call ‘wrapped up well’. I’m surprised you could walk with all those clothes on !! Well done

    1. I was a bit heavy footed. Was sweating by the time I got back.

  2. Hi Ilona, my favourite tipple is port either straight up or more likely having been infused by whatever fruit I can lay my hands on - either damsons, sloes, raspberries, blackcurrants, elderberries, blackberries, forest fruits or sometimes a combination of said fruits HIC!! Well done you on getting out in this bloody cold weather albeit very rugged up. Jan in Castle Gresley

    1. I like a port. Not tried an infusion though. Sounds delish. Can you do it with frozen fruit?

    2. Yes fresh or frozen, just empty the port (keep the bottle and top) into a container that has a lid, add fruit between 8oz to 1lb and sugar to taste, give it a good stir, pop the lid on and hide it in a dark place (but remember where you put it😂). Give it a stir occasionally and strain/bottle when you like the taste, usually leave mine for minimum of two months but sometimes up to six months - if you can wait that long. Happy swigging. Jan

    1. I like to pretend I am Lady Muck, and sip it with my little finger sticking out. I get my Butler Jeeves to pour it for me.

  4. Debi from Leicester.Yes,layers are the key to keeping warm.I get use out of my t shirts all year round to keep warm.Even in bed, lol.I dont even use a continental quilt no more prefering to use knitted woolen patchwork blankets, that I have had for years.3 of them on my bed keep me a lot warmer than one big quilt and easier to wash too.Your sandwich sounds nice.Cant beat a dollop of chutney on food!xx

    1. I have two quilts on my bed, and keep some of my clothes on as I get under them.

  5. Wow Ilona you get through some mileage.. I struggle with doing half to one a day.. like you I layer up, because it is bitterly cold here too but no snow, thank goodness.

    1. I must say it takes some effort sometime to get up from a chair and brave the icy blast as I walk out of the door.

  6. Good on you for getting out and doing the miles.

I’ve completed 80 miles in the last 12 days although some of this has been on the treadmill at the gym so am not sure if that counts towards the walking challenge. I generally try to walk 3.5 miles a day outside though and walk up
and downstairs numerous times a day.

I bought some merino wool thermal base layers a couple of years ago with some birthday money. They really help keep you warm and feel very light.

My favourite tipple is gin infused with redcurrants or damsons. I hardly drink though so it’s a rare treat.

    1. I've never really taken to gin, the smell puts me off. You can do your walking which ever way you like. As long as you keep up with it and don't give up.
