Colour me happy

Hello. I've just found a fab little vid on yoootooob. I was singing Petula Clark's song to myself today, Colour my world, and thought I'd find it. This version is so vibrant. Take a look, it's fun, it's happy, and full of energy. Brilliant.

Has that got you in a happy mood, it certainly did it for me. My colour photo for today is.......
..... my washing. We've had a lovely sunny day, although it has been quite cold. No grey skies, but frosty on the ground. I wasn't sure if it would dry, but it has. 30 minutes at 30 degrees, same as I do all my washing, I never change the dials.

If you can read upside down you might be able to make out the logo on the front of the red and yellow teeshirts, this gives away the age of them. I started the Lady Truckers Club in 1986, we couldn't afford teeshirts at first so a company sponsored us and provided them. Once we had enough money in the kitty a couple of years later, we were able to afford our own, without company advertising on them. So these teeshirts are about 25 years old. That's good going isn't it, they have hardly faded at all. I wear them all the time, usually two or three layers in the winter, and singly in the summer. I wear teeshirts every day because I find them so comfortable, and best of all, I don't have to iron them. Ironing is banned in this house.

I had more of the pasta for lunch, but still had some left, so I made up half a mug of veg gravy in the microwave, cut up four nutty patties into small pieces, put it all in a pyrex dish, grated some cheese over it and microwaved the lot. My dinner for tonight. Eee by 'eck it were greet.

Are we all back to normal now? All decs put away for another year. I was going to get mine out but in the end I couldn't be bothered. All done and dusted, yeah, great. Now lets get on with this new year we have ahead of us. I'm off for a barf. Catch you tomorrow. Toodle pip.

  1. My decorations are being dismantled for another year. Went over to Dad's earlier to take his tree and lights down - I'm not at all sure he actually LIKES Christmas decorations. Everwhere looks ever so plain now - until next year.
    So what's next? Plough Monday tomorrow....but I haven't got a plough!
    Ho hum.

    2. Amused to see an enthusiastic ad for a new shop opening here: "Barf and more"… a pet/dog shop!! I think barf here refers to feeding a raw meat diet to dogs. Maybe they won't have many ex-pat customers! Often funny to see how English is mis-used in other countries - I also saw a sign for an "After Year Party" (new year's party)?!

  3. The decorations are still up as I enjoy the twelve days of Christmas. I put them up as I enjoy them very much. The new year is the same as the old one as time is arbitrary and the quality of time won't be changing, so life continues as it will. You don't have to go after time, it happens anyway and a midwinter festival is fun and brings some joy and magic with it. Also the pretty colours of the lights on my tree make me happy.

    1. I'm with you rather than most of the rest of the blog this time! I love Christmas decorations, and I think when you go past houses with outside lights its like the whole community getting together, even if we don't know each other, we're doing something to link up. Will feel really sad when we take the decorations down tomorrow, just as I have for the last 60-odd years. I probably don't feel quite as sad as I did when I was 5 or so, but it's only a narrow margin!

  4. Love seeing washing blowing in the sunshine and the wind.... great tee shirt pictures. I have some shirts that I have had for years and years....could say I am quite attached to them! Love the colour in your pics. Petula Clark .... what a star. Cheers

  5. The Isley Brothers 'Summer breeze makes me feel fine' is one of my favourite songs. Love the instrumental bits too. Petula Clark takes me back to my childhood 'Down Town' 'I couldn't live without your love' and of course 'Colour my world'. Was it easier to learn the words to songs back then or am I just getting old!

    1. Hi F i E, I can remember a lot of the words from the sixties songs. I think they sang a lot clearer then, and they made more sense, like a short story. listened to the radio a lot, Radio Caroline mostly, and watched Top of the Pops, and Ready Steady Go. Those were the days, ha ha.

  6. I only started reading your blog two days ago and it has nicely rounded off my holiday. My wife told me about the blog and I spent a couple of happy afternoons reading through two of your walking trips and following along on Google maps. We live in Virginia in the USA now but I was born and raised near Wigan so its was nice to hear all of the familiar place names.
After reading the last two posts and not a lot more I asked my wife if you are vegetarian or if buying meat doesn't fit the frugal mould? She didn't know so I thought I'd ask...

    1. Hello Graham, and welcome. I stopped eating meat a long time ago, way before I started my frugal journey. I did eat fish, but don't eat it any more. I don't like the killing of animals for food, we don't need to eat meat. If I tried to eat it now I would be physically sick. I think if people want to eat it that's their choice, but I wish many more people would give it up.

I hope to get out for more walking trips in about a month, when we have a bit more daylight. Not sure where yet, need to do some planning.

    2. After I posted I found the link to the food gallery (it was off the right side of the window on my laptop), it had the comment that you don't eat meat. Your walking trips are impressive. I wish that such a hike was possible here. The distances involved are much larger than in the UK, finding somewhere to stay overnight is a problem since towns can be well over a day's hike apart with little in-between. I have done a few hikes in the mountains with a backpack carrying sleeping bag and tent but that is much rougher, I like your method better.

    3. Hi Graham, yes mountains are tough. All ours are on the opposite side of the country to me, so I don''t go there very often. I couldn't carry camping gear as I like to blog along the way.

  7. We are taking our decs down on Twelfth night, I might live to regret this as I'm back at work tomorrow. At least I won't have to make dinner, the slow cooker is taking care of that :)

  8. I loved Pet Clark! Thanks for the reminder, but now it will be rattling around in my head. My daughter found a tshirt the orther day that is a pig talking to a hot dog on a bun, and it says, "Hi there, Frank". Too funny.

  9. The decs are down in our house. I didn't put many up this year so it didn't take long to pack up :)

Your teeshirts are so lovely and bright, and I cant believe they are that old and still holding up so well. Obviously well made and looked after.

I love the old songs too, you could understand what they were saying back then lol!

I haven't visited here for while so I am off to catch up on what you have been up to :)

Hope you have a great year!

  10. Yes!thanks am much happier and colourfied now.Imagine being able to dry clothes outside in January with some sunshine as well.I'm pouting over here in the nasty, blowy freezing rain.I used to have a David Bowie concert t-shirt that was well loved for years, slept in it all the time until I gifted it to my daughter who always admired it.It is still going strong.Your t-shirts still have a lot of life in them and they must have been very good quality cotton to last all these years.Sigh, such a different world today. Also am a vegetarian for over fourty years now,and have been learning what compromise is by being married to a meat eater.Today's meal is homemade veggie soup and sandwiches and he'll just have to eat it or not as he chooses. It's never been a huge issue for us, but I do wish he'd come on over to the other side, but I have only myself to hold responsible as I knew he ate meat when we married and hoped love would conquer all.(we've been together 42 years now)We didn't have as much out this year re:Christmas decor, strangely wasn't into it at all this year, used lots of fruit and branches and left most of it in boxes unused except for the Father Christmas I made and the small tree.Used lots less electricity and was better for it!Bye for now, Destemona

    1. Hi D. You can't fall out with hubby after all these years. Can you sneak more veggies into the meals, minced and disguised. Reduce the amount of meat in a pie or stew, increase the veg, then tell him after he has eaten it and told you how delicious it was.

  11. I am envious that you could dry clothes outside. It is -27 degrees Fahrenheit (Sorry I am not good with Celsius so I can't convert) wind chill where I am and getting colder

  13. Everything went away on the first. Although I love it when they come out I also enjoy the tidiness of the house when they go back. Wow I can't believe how old those t-shirts are and how bright they still look. Debbie x

  15. About making nut butters , the only one I can manage to make is peanut butter . It's easy and tastes way better than the bought stuff. I tried sunflower and also coconut . It did not turn into butter , even after a long time in the food processor.

I hadn't heard that song before but it is lovely and really cheerful and upbeat for this new year.

  17. Hi, Ilona, good suggestions by you.Have been doing some of those things for many years too, thanks.Grated vegetables and fruit in everything from casseroles, patties, cake, muffins, desserts are often made.He is not going to change, I think, and I'm not either, so there we are...it's just understood that any meatless foods are never served or mixed -ever-with meat, or it's juices or utensils etc.and that applies to any visitors. It's so funny when I'm offered a dish by someone and they say it's vegetarian and I ask oh, what's in it and they say oh just vegetables and rice and oh yes just added some chicken or beef broth and a little minced bacon for flavour but you eat that right?Big smile and sigh, regards, Destemona

  18. I remember your Lady Truckers Club, you seemed to be in TRUCK magazine every month. The T-shirts have lasted well but then they were probably British made quality rather than the cheap as poss eastern clothes we wear today.
